house training question I am wanting to know if I would confuse my yorkie if I start training him to go in the house and after a short time (winter in iowa brrrr) train her to go outside would she be confused if when winter comes she pees in the house in a specific spot and when not winter (no snow) she can go outside. I really want mine to be trained to go outside to pee n poo but don't want to confuse her. Help please.:animal36 |
I would pick one system and stay with it year round. Mine are completely outdoor trained. I know a lot of people here wee pad only train or wee pad/outdoor train and it works for them. |
I believe you will confuse your doggy if indoor potty is okay only part of the time. However, some members here are successful with training their doggies to use a piddle pad in the garage. The dog is able to distinguish the garage as not in the house. |
my 3 are both when i'm home they go outside when not they go on pee pad works for us and they understand when i'm gone its pee pad |
I would stay with one method Patches is completely outdoor trained |
I have to agree with the majority as well. Pick one method and stay with it. Romeo is totally wee pad trained and refuses to go outside. |
Ziva is garage and outdoor trained. I did it by moving her from indoor training to moving the pads(newspaper) slowly to the door and then out into the garage- it took a long time. She was 1 year by the time we finally came up with a working solution. (she will not go outside in rain or dark) Abby is 7 months and still working on it. |
I'm the oddball, mine use the pad inside, garage and go outside. It works for us because mine do not like the snow or rain. Hubby's mancave is the garage so he takes them out there when goes for a smoke throughout the evening. It is also nice cause we can take them in their for the last "outing" of the night. We kept them on pads cause we anchor out alot on our boat and this way we didn't have to put the dinghy in the water each time. |
