Obsessed with humping Chase humps the cat whos 4 and now that we have an 11 week old lab pup hes turned into humping the pup. Chase will be 1 on Christmas Day. How do I stop this , I am afraid Chase is going to be bitten and hurt. Chase is 8 pounds and the pup at 11 weeks is 28 pounds. :aimeeyork:animal-pa |
I might ad that when he cant by us or animal not letting him he gets very aggressive |
Is he neutered? How about the cat and your new pup? Some hump because they're getting into puberty. Others hump for dominence. After a certain period of time it can become a habit. First, I'd suggest getting them all neutered (if they're not already). Second, try to distract him whenever he starts to hump. Make a noise or squeak a toy. That will help to break the habit. Third, make sure that you're treating them all the same. Like when you give them treats - make them all sit down at the same time and give each one a treat according to who was there first. Lastly, make sure they all know that you're the boss - not them :D Good Luck & Let us know how it goes. |
Hi no hes not neutered but the cat is. the lab pup is only 12 weeks Dec 11. so he cant be yet. We are making sure everyone gets equal toys, treats and attention. We also make the pssst noise to correct Chase as he sniff anyones bum lol. so i guess just persistance. |
Joey was a little humper until we got him fixed. He continued to hump about one month after that. It's there way of showing dominance, and some breeders say that this early humping is good because it allows the testicles to drop. I would never allow them to hump a human, but usually when they try it with other animals, the other animal will tell them to back off when they’ve had enough. Isn't the cat doing that? |
Funny story here regarding this issue... In our puppy class we had no small pups, all large ones. So I decided to socialize my baby with another small breed. I asked my hairdresser (we are good friends) if she would come over with her 10lb female Pom (she is spayed). It was the longest hour and a half. Now at this point Brutus wasn't fixed but had never humped. He was a humping machine - he warmed right up to her and started going at it. He humped her head, side, the air - really anything around her. After that I reseached and found that they will hump to show who is boss. The whole situation was chaotic, as we were constantly trying to keep them apart. |

You should have him neutered soon, before the aggression is also a habit than cannot be broken. And if he hasn't started marking yet, neutering will help prevent that as well. |
My male humped like crazy until I neutered him. He is now 3 and hasn't humped anything since his neuter :) I would definitely say neuter him... |
