How long before At what age should I really expect a wee one to get a command? i have a 12 week old pup, we have been working on sit for a little less then a week...she kinda sorta gets it. She kinda sorta comes when I call her name.....she REALLY comes when I shake the treat bag!:D. I do realize it takes a while, but is she just too young...should I wait a month to really gear up the training and maybe slowly slide in little commands here and there? i mean when they are this youmg her attention span os that pf a gnat! Abby answered to her name by 14 weeks. She really didn't get "sit" until 4 1/2 months, much better on the leash too. Now at 5 months (her teeth just started to fall out) we are having some real potty-ing break thru! I think its important to keep trying because all of a sudden it seems to click. |
ZoE was really easy to train. She got sit, stay, shake, high five, down (laydown) consistently by the time she was 14 weeks old. "Here" was good but not consistent, (unless she was in the "stay" command and I walked away and then gave her the "here" command), until she about 4 1/2 months old. "Roll over" is the one command she's never been able to master...she just does NOT like to roll over. Keep training. Once they are weaned, they are never too young to learn. Just keep training periods short in duration and praise, praise, praise everything they do right. |
