Help! He's marking everywhere! I have a four year old and a 7 mos old yorkie. In the last few months my older yorkie has been marking all over the house. I think it's because he is not too keen on the new addition to the family. Is there anything I can do to help correct him from marking everywhere in the house? |
This is very common and dogs that have never marked start marking when a new dog enters the territory. He's just saying he belong there. I think walking and allowing them to do their marking outside helps. Some will disagree with this, but it works for me. Another choice is belly bands, but I'd try walking first. |

Has he been neutered? Sometimes, only sometimes mind you, this may help. Also, it is a behavior that can be helped with training. You will have to watch him like a hawk though. Everytime you catch him lifting to mark, clap your hands together sharply and say NO! This may startle him into stopping for long enough to get a leash on him and take him outside. The idea being that OUTSIDE is where you want him to mark. There are also products Like DOG NO! That you can spray on the places he marks, this might help, but might not as well. Make sure if you use it, to try it on a hidden spot to make sure it doesn't discolor anything. Also, a pepsi can with some pennies in it will startle him if shaken when he starts to lift his leg. |
I use size one Huggies on my boys. Works so much better than a belly band. Here are some more tips....Stop Dog Urine Marking - Tips to Stop Dog Peeing in the House |
