How old is your pup? |
He's 13 weeks now.. should i feed first before play or play before feeding? in between his feeding times i will feed him water usually before play and potty.. Will that be alright? |
I'm under he impression that it's best to have food available all the time for the puppy. Ask your breeder for ideas on that. As far as a potty schedule, it sounds good to me! Don't forget to give him a chance to potty after play time and feeding. It would look like: Take him out of the crate for potty, play time, another chance to potty then back in the crate. The more chances he has to get it right, the better. :) |
Feeding twice a day isn't enough for a puppy that age. They should eat small amounts four to five times a day. I would put meal time on a schedule and not keep it down. I think he will make his own schedule as to when he will need to go potty, but good luck in whatever you decide. ;) |
I agree with the OP - a puppy that young needs to eat more often. We actually free feed Jack along with giving him healthy treats throughout the day. |
Thanks for all the replys, There is actually 3 feeding time in the schedule though. This is because in between during play time i usually use some kibbles as training treats i do use treats sometimes too. Probably I'll look into adding another feeding time. n.n |
I think I was feeding mine 4 times a day when he was that young. Then I decreased to 3xday for months, then finally he is fed twice a day now that he is grown. Also, my puppy needed to pee every hour, or sometimes more often than that. At one point you've got over 2 hours in between potty times. I think he's gonna have accidents if you wait that long. I did not give my puppy bones or bully sticks, because it can be difficult to figure out how much he is eating, what is causing any possible diarreah or vomiting if he's eating more than just dog food. Puppies are perfectly happy with chew toys (or your furniture, or your shoes...) |
ok thanks.! I'll look into it and add a few more potty time inbtw n another feeding time. He seems not to show much interest in chew toys. i got him a kong chew toy for puppies which worked pretty well at first but he soon loose interest in it as he couldnt get the treat out and now he doesnt touch it anymore. i have some squeeky toy different shapes and sizes, a nlyabone, squeeky balls, non squeeky balls, rope like toy but he lose interest in them in a few minutes ( i do rotate them) and likes to sniff and eat my carpet. Any good recommendations for a good chew toy? Thanks! |
