I give up I just cant potty train on pads... :(I have to go back to crate training and sacrfice some freedom now for the freedom that will come later. I just know pad training is gonna make it hard to keep them from peeing on the carpet so its back to strict discipline. They really go on the pads well but only in small spaces and im afraid they wont get it:confused: Any feedback is welcomed. |
It starts small and I they are doing well, that's a good sign! You can slowly expand their space when they prove they are trustworthy. For some it's a slow process, so don't give up! |
Have you tried putting the pad in a pan or on a pad holder? That really helped us. They will learn to have to jump in the pan. |

But she was confined in a playpen when there was a chance of accidents, crate on one side, litter box on the other. That ensured no mistakes. |
I almost gave up and did the same thing myself!! It seemed I would have several days with not one accident, then all of a sudden, A SPOT!! I did 2 things when this happened; First I looked at the pad, is it dirty? Oddly enough, my pads only get used to half capacity until Chloe thinks they are too dirty to pee on. This caused her to go BESIDE the pad. Secondly, she was out too much and had too much freedom. It happened to be a day where I let her dictate how long she stayed out and played. She started getting the run of the house and when it hit her to go, wherever she was, that's where she went. I got her back on track in a few days by keeping the pads clean and by keeping her on her schedule. In her mind as far as play time and having the run of the house she felt like she was being dominate over me, and you can't have that while training. She went back to her crate, and out to play and eat as usual, and all these potty issues went away for me. Yorkie's seem to be the hardest to potty train i've ever attempted, but don't give up and be consistent with very little changes in that routine of potty training and it will work out for you. |

Another Trainer I know, is using a regular Kitty litter box and several of her clients are using the cave/ tent kind of kitty litter box. So maybe that is an option to start a very young puppy with that. |
I put Ziva's papers on the lid of an old rubbermaid storage tub (upside down) it is not to high to step up on but enough to make sure she is on it.I just tried it before investing in something she might not use and it worked out great. |
