Pyper barking at other dogs nonstop!
 

Lately I've been noticing how Pyper is around other dogs. Around big dogs, she is great. I used to talk her with a roti/sheppard mix and they were amazing together(it was a female as well). But when she is around other small dogs, it seems to make her go crazy. I was walking her last night with my boyfriend and from across the street she seen a fairly small dog (bigger than her though) and started to bark uncontrollably. I just couldn't get her to stop. I was getting so upset/frustrated over this. She is normally a very good dog. But the second she started barking, she was all riled up and once the dog was out of site, she continued to bark. I made her stop, and sit and I tried to calm her down before continuing our walk. But it was of no help.

I really need some advice or suggestions on what i should do.

Is it that she is trying to be dominant against another small dog?
Is she not socialized enough?

Anything please It is very heart breaking when she does this. It makes me feel like I am a bad owner.:confused:

My yorkie had the same problem. I hired a trainer. Its hard to say if its really dominance or not unless being seen by a professional. Mine was dominance/aggression according to the trainer and while he is improving, he is still very much work in progress. I had to learn to be calm and assertive and its easier said than done. He still at times regressed and at times he is good.I also consulted a psychic what is my yorkie thinking when it comes to aggression and she said he js in pain so I need to bring him to the vet and have that checked out if its true.

When Oliver barks unnecessarily, I give a sharp "AAAH!" and pop his leash. This usually distracts him into stopping the barking and looking up at me. I tell him "don't worry about that" in a nonchalant way and continue on our walk. He will also yelp at me when he wants up, especially on a new walk, and I do the same thing. He knows that the "AAH!" noise means he is doing something I don't like.

I also have been training him to "Speak" since he was 2 months old. This can be very useful and may be worth a shot for you, since it helps control his noise level. Once you've taught him to speak, you can teach him 'quiet'. I am working on this now and it's fairly successful.

When your dog is barking, try clapping your hands loudly and saying "Quiet!". If your dog stops, praise and reward. I use dehydrated beef liver as a treat and Oliver loooooves it. He will do almost anything for it. Practice a lot. you can even encourage your dog to bark, such as during play, and use that time to practice the "quiet" command.

This article is great. I taught 'speak' before 'quiet' because he wasn't barky enough for me to teach quiet first.

Nip it in the bud..... Quick corrections and straight to the point !!

Be consistent and try to correct he behavior before she even has a change to get to a bark. Look for the signs of aggression and put a stop to it before she moves forward into the dominating mode.

Use a correction such as a "AHH AHH" or a leash tug or both.
