Male aggressive yorkie My 3 yr old yorkie Tek is very male aggressive. If a male walks up and touches me, he tries his best to bite them. He is not like this with any female. As far as I know, he has not been abused by a male. It is just he and I but he is around males. I can walk up to the male but the male can not approach me. This has gotten worse over the last 6 months or so. Any ideas as to why or what to do? I have signed up for a general obedience to see if this will help. |
I can't tell you how to cure this behavior but I am hopeful that someone replies to your post. I have a similar problem with my male. He is usually sweet and affectionate but for some reason if there is someone in a room and I enter the room he will go after the person's legs. It could be my husband, daughter or anyone in my home. It obviously has something to do with protecting me. I should add that he is affectionate to my hubby and daughter otherwise. It's just strange. We are working on it since we recognize the behavior. Deuce is almost 2 years old. |
I really do not like to give advice about aggression on line. It is not possible to see in person what triggers the behavior. This seems to be common guarding behavior. Arm yourself and a friend with a small spray bottle of water. Set it to stream, not mist. If he is doing this guarding on your lap. When he starts say 'ENOUGH !' and put him on the floor. Repeat every time. If he is really nippy it is ok to spray him and say Enough. Have the other person armed with a spray bottle and have them squirt the dog if it charges them, have them also say Enough in a firm tone. Tell them to stand their ground and not to hop around or back off. Spray and say Enough. |
