Indoor potty training Hello, I've been browsing this forum for quite some time now ever since I got my yorkie. Im having difficulties with training her to go on her pee pads. I placed a grass patch from pets smart over the pee pads too. When we first got her, she was 8 weeks old and went on the pads consistently. I was so surprised how quickly she leafed, so for 3 weeks it was all good. After she got her shot from the vet when she turned 12 weeks, the next day she never went on the pad. Ever since then she has avoided the pad, and she isn't even close to it. Whenever I tell her to go to go on the pad she just sits there or bites me.(a whole other issue). I've given her treats and praises whenever she did go on the pad which would be once every couple of days, but this hasn't helped.I guess I'm just confused as how she can just forget where she should be going...and I dontknow what else to do! Every time I can I try to encourage her to go on the grass but she walks away and sneakily goes somewhere else! Does anyone know what I should do? I've owned a dog before and she was potty trained indoors as well, so I know it's possible! Thanks! |
My yorkie did that too, so I started training him to ring a bell to go outside, but continued with the indoor pads and eventually he stared using the pads again. Persistent and consistent training on both and I have a great baby that goes to a litter box in the middle of the night or when he is alone and also rings a bell when we are home with him :) |

Throw a party when she does it right. Really act excited! Bring her to the pad frequently and place her on it, but don't hold her on it. Let her go immediately and always be very pleasant about it. You don't want her to associate the pad with anything negative. If all of this fails, restrict her freedom to an xpen with the piddle pad until she learns. You can take her out of the pen when you can watch her very closely. How old is she now? What kind of pads do you use: washables or disposables? Have you changed the kind of pads you use? Sometimes pups will have a preference and they often need the attractant scent that is infused in the disposables. If you use washables, buy the scent spray at the pet store or soak up a little urine on the pad to attract her. |
