Potty training..HELP!! I am new to this site and I was wondering if I could get some wonderful advice from all of you!! I will be getting my lil girl in about 11 weeks and was wondering which way is the best way for potty training her! I am still in school from 7:50 till 3 with cheer practice after from 3-5 on mon.- thurs. and sometimes have games that can take till 7-9..the good thing is my mom works at home 3 days out of the week and my Nana lives 2 mins. away so if I was to outside potty train her they good pitch in. I don't really want to much help from them because I want her to be my dog but if it is best for her they will help. So I am wondering what y'all think I should do. If I was to outside train do y'all have any good feeding schedules I could look into?! Thankyou :) |
With young pups, especially small ones, the primary concern about feeding schedules is to prevent the pup from suffering hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) and dehydration. Pups need frequent meals, 3-4 times a day, and sometimes additional little snacks or free feeding. Water should be provided at all times. At 11 weeks, your pup needs frequent potty breaks: when she wakes from sleeping/napping, after each meal, and after play time, and many more times. |
Thank you for the help/advice:) |

Anyone else please?!?! |
11 weeks is a young pup, kind of like a baby. She/he is going to need to feed every 3-4 hours so that her blood sugar does not go too low. She can become very ill from low blood sugar. To have any success in potty training, she will need to be taken out every so many hours or shown a pee pad and encouraged to go on it. These dogs are very dependent on us at this age and not capable of doing much for themselves. They will need interaction and training. Hopefully your mother can help you with this, bc it sounds like your schedule is very busy through the week - not leaving much time to train a baby yorkie. |
I actually just realized that cheer will be over when I get her so I won't be gone as long! I a thinking of pee pad training her just because I am getting hernin the winter and she will be soo small and it will be very cold!! |
