Will this confuse her? Sorry for another question. My boyfriend and I both work overnight (11p-7a) and home during the day to sleep. I get up with her every 3.5 hours to go outside and pee. She goes and is happy to go back in her crate. We are unable to come home at night from work and she has been peeing in her crate. My boyfriend suggested we get her a playpen with just her crate and peepads for the nights we work. Will this confuse her and any progress we have made to make her pee outside? |
Depends on the dog. It would confuse mine and she would also think if peepads are okay, rugs, etc. are okay. If you need to, you need to. Could just xhange the major focus to pads training the pup. That'd be fine. That is an extremely long time with no potty breaks. She will have to be pad trained and hope her sugar doesn't drop if she is small. I'd hope she is eating while you're gone.. |
Im keeping her on a strict schedule, as if we slept at night just like her, and worked during the day just like any other person. 7am out to pee 715am eat/play 8am out to pee 815 in crate 1145 out to pee 12 back in crate 230 out to pee and play/go for walk until about 4 4 out to pee 415 in crate while mommy hits the gym 515 out to pee/play 6 dinner 615-630 pee 630-730 play 730 pee and in crate while I shower/eat dinner. 830-1045 out to pee/play/etc 1045 until 7 hopefully sleeping in crate We are home all day even tho we sleep about 6-7 hours and i get up to take her out. its overnight that she is alone. |
I agree, that would be confusing for your pup. If you use pads, they have to be available always, not just part of the day. If your ultimate goal is outdoor potty only, don't use the pads. 8 hours without a potty break is a long time for a pup. |

I keep forgetting things. My boyfriend is off sunday nights so he will be home with her and typically I CAN come home Wed-Saturday around 2am (we are both off Mon/Tues) given there are enough of us at work. This week there has only been 2 so i havent been able to leave. |
