how do I get my one y/o yorkie to like our new yorkie puppy?? Hey everyone. So we just got a new yorkie puppy from a family friend, the family just had a baby and couldn't keep the puppy "Luna". The puppy came from the same breeder that we got our first yorkie from "Lucy", Lucy is now a year old and shes not getting along with the puppy, the puppy wants to play with her but all she does is show her teeth and growl. What is the best thing to do to help them like each other ?! |
Introduce them on neutral grounds so no one is above anyone. This is a territorial thing. i read somewhere that the older dog needs to believe that the pack leader (you) will protect them, so you should take charge and slowly with full attention on them, let them get to know each other. And if the older growls calm them down and reassure them that its ok. And if the puppy is playing to ruff with the older, maybe give some time to the older. Also show them plenty of love so they don't feel replaced with the new puppy. Good luck! |
this happened to me as well....it took quite a while for Sadie to like her new fursister. give it time. don't make alot of the puppy (which is going to be hard) Try holding Lucy when you hole Luna.... |
Aww I hope you get everything settled soon so they can start enjoying each others company |
I experienced the same thing...when Porscha was 6 months I decided she should have a companion so I got Bentley who was also 6months old. Porscha totally changed...she all of a sudden developed this independance that I hated because she no longer felt she needed me as much. She used to sleep on my face every night and now she won't even let me cuddle with her for more than a minute. I made sure to give Porscha attention first, her food would be put out a minute before Bentley's too. They will grow to love one another but just try to Lucy more attention initally to reassure her that she is not being replaced. Good luck to you and congrads on your new addition to the family! |
