All night in crate? I'm not sure if I'm suppose to crate Luna through the night. I am afraid she'd go potty in her crate because when we use to leave her during the day in her play pen she would always go potty in there. Another thing is, since I've started to crate train her I always take her on a leash and guide her to where she is to go. If she starts to sniff outside of the wee wee pad I redirect her by tugging a bit on her leash... is that ok? Thanks for the help! :) |
I am sorry to say that I cannot remember how old you mentioned Luna is. Soon they learn to hold their bladder throughout the night (not too young of an age however) and I think a crate is a great place for them. If she does whimper in the middle of the night, I found the best thing is to not say a word when you take her out, take her to the potty spot and give a command to go potty. If she hasn't for a few moments then take her back to her kennel and leave her. This way without all the lovey dovey words said, Luna is realizing that night time is not play time so she wont be given a lot of attention. I think you using her leash is wonderful...That way she doesn't wonder off too far from her designated potty spot. Good luck.... |
Thanks for the advice! Luna is now 6 months, so I'm not sure how many hours she can go without going potty, I really haven't realized because we'd just take her out whenever we'd get the chance. But now we switch to crate training and wee wee pads because she'd go inside or outside... inside when we'd forget or not go with enough time, so we're going to use inside since we're forgetful 'round here... lol thanks again!! :) |

Good luck! :p |
Hercules is 6 months, and he's able to hold it throughout the night. But sleeping in is a no-no for me! He's gotten used to the time in the morning that I take him out, so just be cautious of that. They are definitely creaturs of habit!! |
I can't believe how incredibly smart our babies our! I started just yesterday with crating/housebreaking Luna and she already got 4 pees and 1 poo on the pads. I really have to say though that the leash has been the main reason why it's been so succesful! I've been correcting her when she wanders off the pads and wouldn't let her off leash until she "got busy"... then I crated her through the night and at around 6:50am (time I went to school) I quietly went to get crate, opened it, and said "Luna come on..." led her to her pads and she went TWICE! I was so impressed! But, I was even more impressed by the fact that I was able to put her back in her crate and she didn't make a sound, just went back in as if nothing. I really hope this works out!! I'm not counting my victories until I have tried this for a week, just wanted to share Luna's success! :animal-sm |
