potty trouble It seems as if Bella did better with the potty training the first week we got her. Why is she peeing in her pen at night or sometimes pooping in it? I wake up and let her out in the night at the first whimper. She had wet in pen twice last night when I went to get her at the first sound. Now she has peed on the carpet or pooped right after letting her outside to go. We watched her pee outside then she came in and went in a matter of minutes. It is just a small amount but I can't figure out the reason for the accidents. Any ideas? |
This is off topic but I looked at your name. My last name is Snyder (I am assuming your is too). That is cool. |
Maybe try keeping her outside a little longer. And try to watch for a routine in terms of when she poops. My Hercules is now 6 months and I know he poops first thing in the morning and at 5:00. So I know to be on the look-out then. I think your baby is still really young too, and remember that they don't have bladder control yet. Hercules would constantly have really small accidents, but they aren't as bad now. It takes a while, so hang in there. :) |
bld2751............. How many times a day do you feed Hercules? Thanks |
How much room are you giving your puppy in the pen? There should only be enough room, to stand, turn around and lay down. there should be no room to eliminate, unless it's where she sleeps. If that is all the room you are giving her, then try sprinkling some dry food in her sleeping area. Puppies will not poop or pee where they eat. If you give her too much room in the pen, then she will find the room to eliminate. Not sure if that helps or not. |

It's funny, because even on the weekends, I know that starting at 4:00 to be on the lookout for him to be getting ready to go poop. But usually he won't go until 5:00. It's just his time I guess! |
Hi Brandi... About what time do you feed him in the morning? I'd love for my pup to have that schedule. Also, at what age did you start feeding him twice a day? My pup goes right when he gets up which is around 5-5:30am...so that's easy to time. Then I feed him between 6 and 7 am. I feed him again at noon and then I don't have a clue when he will go. It's usually an 1-2 hrs later. I feed him again at 5pm and he goes again around 8-9 pm. He's going to be staying in a kennel for a few days while we're gone at Easter. I'm talking about a kennel kennel. Not a crate. :) I don't want him pooping in his pen in the evenings. They told me they will take him out around 8 pm which is GREAT compared to other kennels. They also take turns letting them hang out in the main lobby when the people that work there. |
Stacy Yes my last name is Snyder. My husband is Todd. Are you married or is Snyder your maiden name? Nice to meet you. Michele |
pen Bella's pen is not big just a traveling crate. But she is still very small about 3lbs. She is going potty faster when I take her out now. This morning at the first whimper I went to her to take her out but she had already wet. She had gone all night though. Maybe I should wake her first. Michele |

The carriers may be the smallest you can get, but if it is roomier in the carrier than your puppy needs to stand turn and lay down, then you need to fill up some of that empty space. A dog trainer says that until her puppies grow bigger she uses cardboard boxes in the carrier to fill that space up. Some carriers come with partitions that you insert and take out as the puppy gets bigger. But if you give your puppy room to eliminate in the carrier and still find a dry space to lay down, then they will keep doing it in the carrier. |
