:aimeeyork:aimeeyork:love::love::love: think a lot of us would love a pat answer. my ollie is almost 2 yrs old, i have a doggie door (my saving grace). if you are able, get one!!!!! i use doggie pads when i am not home because i am afraid to let my 2 dogs out when i am gone for more than a few min. it has taken 18 mos or so & they are better but not perfect with pee pads. very odd ,they poop close to the pads often. i am thrilled when i see poop on the pads. outside is best if you can swing that. good luck!!!!!!!!!!! even with all the mess i wouldn't trade my ollie for anything. he is so loyal & so dependent. love yorkies wish i could have more!!! |
No two dogs are alike. For all the talk I've heard about dogs having to go poop within 5 - 30 minutes after eating, this is totally not the case for our dog. He does not eat UNTIL he's gone poop. Just took a week or so to figure this out. Now I have his schedule down pat. |
I'm learning my pups schedule now that I've made some necessary adjustments to her diet. She's eating natures variety instinct kibble and the raw medallions. She poops 3x a day and eats twice a day. So far so good. I live in an Apartment in Chicago so a doggy door is not an option for us. I prefer to take her outside to poop but it gets very cold out here in the winter and I haven't been home on a consistent schedule to take her out. The paper training is going well so far. |

Goog luck with training. She will do great with your optimistic outlook! |
So I wanted to try the potty patch but since I already bought the litter box and a new box of 200 pads I didn't want to spend the $ on it. I made one myself. I bought some fake grass and zip tied it to a piece of egg crate which is like a grate. I cut this down to size and put it in the litter box over the puppy pad. She's ped in it twice and pooped in this morning. The poop wasn't completely solid so now I'm grossed out but at least she like it. I'll do the necessary cleaning. |
I think Bella's poop accidents are solved!!!:) She pees on her pad but pooped mostly in the same spot so I put a pad in that spot and she poops on it. Yaaaaa! I have 2 pee pads but I heard from others thats what some dogs prefer. There was no rhyme or reason to the timing of when she poops just the location. Some dogs need 2 pee pads. Hope you guys have similar success! |
For BarneyandBella They say that a dog does not poop and pee in the same place. I don't know if that is an old wives tale but that's what I heard. On the other hand I'm having a problem with my 21 month old yorkie who pees on the pad and poops on the floor. But there have been times when she has done both on the pad. I won't let her out of her pen unless she does both. You have to be more strong minded than they are and not let them manipulate you. Even with their cuteness! |

Really? We just carried Cherry over to the pad each time we saw her squat. After she peed/pooped on the pad, we would praise her and pet her. She still has an accident every now and then, but almost every single pee is on a pad (we have 3 around the house downstairs), and most poops. Maybe we just got super lucky with an easy to train pup. Knock on wood!! |
Funny poor babies I read to LEAVE poop on pad or put it there. They go back to that spot and sniff it and say" OHHH, THAT'S where I left it!" And poop there again! |
