Puppy won't pee outside, only in house! Every morning I take my yorkie outside and he sits there for like 5 minutes and as soon as we get inside he pees! What can I do?! |
You need to keep him outside longer and take him more often. He is still young. My Tessie would hardly ever potty outside, it was very frustrating. Now she is 100% trained to use the potty pads indoors. She does not like for her feet to get wet and she won't potty if I am watching her. |
I agree with Susan, you have to stay outside with your pup longer and you have take your pup out often. How old is your baby? From your other thread, I gather he is 12 weeks or younger. That is very early to expect most Yorkies to be potty trained. He has a tiny bladder that isn't fully developed. Take your pup outside after each meal, after each play time, when he wakes up and before you go to bed, and many times in between. When he does pee in the right place, praise him profusely and give him a piece of kibble for doing it right. |
My baby is about 10 weeks old. I'll post a few pictures up just look at my album. |
I'm right there with you! we just got our yorkie his name is BOI and he will go outside or in the house! between my family of 4 BOI gets walked all the time but it doesn't seem to matter. He doesnt like to get wet and if doesnt feel like walking he just sits down and wont move! I dont know what to do.. |

they always give indicators that they're getting ready to pee. (and no 2 dogs are the same) When Leroy first came home, he had never seen dirt or grass, so he didn't know what it was for. . . . he thought he was supposed to go on the carpet, newspaper, towels, whatever was handy. For the first few months, you're teaching him how to learn. Get him off to a good start with proper training accompanied by developing a good relationship with him, and you've got a great companion for life. :aimeeyork :D |
I'm having the same problem! My little Max is almost 11weeks old, I take him outside when he wakes up in the morning, from naps, after eating, before bed, and multiple times during the day. I know when he has to go because he will start sniffing and walking in circles. So i take him outside to the same spot and say "go potty". He was catching on for a couple days it seemed like, and i would have treats ready and make such a big deal about how good he was for pottying outside. Now however i'll take him out and he will just sniff around, and walk back to the door to go in. Then potty and turn around and look at me while he does it! If i ever catch him squatting ill rush him outside, and wait, but nothing. then as soon as we get back in..he pottys on the floor! what else can i be doing to teach him? |

We brought Gabby home in the winter and trained her to use a pad and once spring came around Heide and I decided why train her to go outside. If the weather is bad, cold or snowy she does not need to go outside.I have pads placed in different places in our house. It is a little strange to have a dog not go potty outside.I was really happy at the park, but did not praise her.If we are going to be out with her for hours and hours we will take a pad with us |
I agree with the others, he is still a baby, and you should keep him out abit longer. also, I know it may sound weird but it works a treat! You should name the potty action, then eventually the will potty on command (my ziggy does this and its the best thing i learnt form YT) |
MamaZiggy can you explain how you taught your pup to potty on command? |
My dog is also trained to pee on command, Not going to lie it was truly alot of work and dedication. I was not working when I got her so I dedicated my time to training her , which meant up every two hours and even in the middle of the night, I would say " HURRY HURRY" when she did pee and give her a GREAT treat , one she ONLY got when she was outside, you can use boiled chicken or a piece of a turkey hot dog. Then you make a BIG HUGE deal of it , what a good girl going " HURRY HURRY " yeah what a good girl !!!! , giving a few pieces of the GREAT treat...we had accidents and it really was NO fun at all in the freezing winter, rain , sleet , snow but it worked and she is 100% potty trained outside, she does jump up on my leg now or I can tell by behavior if she has to go. Someone on here told me to use the HURRY HURRY command as opposed to go pee/ poop so the neighboors don't know whats going on LOL.. it worked! But......... it took a good 6 months there bladder is very tiny. |
Khloe is 5 months old. I take her out and she loves to play with crickets, pinecones and butterfiles but no potty. I let her watch Kirby but still it's like a hit and miss. I have a crate that we keep in her when we can't watch her. I thought bichons were hard to potty train but yorkies beat them. Then Khloe loves to drink water with her dime sized bladder. :( Do yorkies ever get potty trained? I realize she is a puppy but how long will it take.:( |
Yorkie won't pee in special area outside Rocky is 5 months old. We started him with pee pads in a "Pet Apartment', basically a large crate with a division to section off a pee pad area, and an opening to the bedding area which is very small. We want him to start going outside now, he poos and pees on walks just fine, also if we let him run around the backyard, but when we walk him to the special area to go he will not go. This area is in our backyard, around 4 feet by 4feet, is filled with gravel, we've even put some of his previous BM's out there. He will pee in his bedding, and at night poo also, don't know what to do with him , can anyone help???? |
is he not using the puppy apartment? Maybe your confusing him. I would stick with just the puppy apartment for now. Jess trained on one similar and she still uses it. I wouls master the potty indoor in puppy apt before you add outside |
I've had mayor success cage training all four of my pups. Also comes in handy for potty training issues. You can find my method of training on my site in the link below, how you find something that helps. www.dawsnyorkies.weebly.com/training-tips |
