puppy doesn't show pee signs I recently took in a neglected 9 month old puppy. I'm trying to housetrain him. I can't tell when he is going to pee because he does it while standing normally. He doesn't lift a leg, doesn't squat, doesn't spread his legs, nothing. He simply starts peeing while in a regular stance. Is that normal? |
No, I think that's a bit strange. Is his range of motion/movement in his rear legs okay? May want to have your vet access him. Mine usually have to 'go' within 15 minutes after eating. Also after playtime, and waking up in the morning and after a nap. You could try taking him out every 1-2 hours, and when he does it, say a command, like 'go potty' or whatever you prefer, just be consistant. Once he learns the command, you'll be able to take him out and tell him to 'go potty' and he should go right away. |
Might want to have him checked for LP (luxating patella) for sure. Could be he's not squatting or lifting because his knees are bad and he can't:( |
My boys do that somethimes because they are too lazy to raise their legs, but you should have your vet check him foe everything sonce he had a bad life before you got him. Also if he was in a Kennel so long he may not have had much room to move around. |
The vet had checked him over and gave him a clean bill of health but this was before I realized he didn't lift a leg or anything. However, he has been in a kennel most of his life. I'll call the vet and see if he thinks puppy should come back in. Thanks everyone for the replies. |
If he was in a kennel he was probably short on space and he started out peeing that way out of necessity I'll bet he'll start lifting his leg on his own pretty soon |
