Help with potty training please I am new to this forum and hope I am doing this right...? I need help with pee pad training. My 9 month old Yorkie prefers to chew on the pee pads and pee on the floor. How do I teach him to use the pee pad? I confine him in my small laundry room when I leave him - what am I doing wrong?? I adore him but admit I'm getting frustrated!! He is 3 lbs. And I have been told small dogs tinkle more often...? Thanks for any help anyone has to offer!! |

Try this link: Errorless Housetraining | Dog Star Daily It worked great for me. I started out with a litter box, then transitioned to a pad by putting it in the litter box. Eventually I was able to get rid of the litterbox. |
Hmmm ... Sorry, I'm reading this for future advice too! Is it okay to have a puppy pen instead of a crate, or do I really have to buy a crate to put inside of the pen? :aimeeyork |
I don't think you have to have a crate if you've got a good sized pen. You just want a comfortable amount of space between the area where they sleep and the area where they poop. People recommend small crates within the pen to reinforce the idea that that's where they sleep, and the other side is where they poop. However, if you set up a few blankets instead of a crate, I don't see why that wouldn't work. Another benefit of a small crate is it's nice to get them used to it and comfortable in a crate. You never know when you'll have to transport them in a crate in the future. |
