I really think that it's getting better for Lucy each time. It's progressing very slowly but since your first post, already there's been a huge difference. And believe me, Max's first time at a dog park was a total nightmare. Cooper's was even worse. I cried on the way home because I was so worried about my boy. |
I may have missed it, but is there a reason Ringo can't go to the dog park too? I'm guessing he is dog aggressive. It does sound like Lucy is making progress with each trip. I only go to dog parks where they have a small dog section, and even then there can be some "big" small dogs, and I have big yorkies. Rory just loves to run and play fetch, and all the dogs chase after her, but she is so focused on the ball I doubt she notices. Lane will sometimes try to play and flirt with the other dogs, but other times she sticks right by me. She'll join in the pack and chase after Rory fetching the ball sometimes too. |
Hi, Why isn't Ringo aloud to be with her in the dog park? I would think that it would help her to have fun and gain confidence around the other dogs. |
I wish Ringo could come - but he absolutely does not do well with strange dogs. Otherwise, he would be there for sure! He only likes small females and I can't guarantee that that's all that there will be at the dog park. He would not enjoy it and no one else would either! |
The first time I took Cali (4.2 pounds) the the dog park I just sat with her in my lap and let her watch all the other pups until she made a move wanting to join them. Some came up and smelled and nosed her, but I did not push her and then when she decided to get involved that was it! Cali thinks she is a big dog so that might have made a difference. She has always been the smallest dog in her obedience classes, but I think that helped socialize her too. Hope it keeps getting better for her. Would love to hear she enjoys it there! Be patient, but understand in the end it just may not be her "thing". |
Maggie is seven pounds but looks smaller because her legs are short. She will be three in September and she does not like the dog park at all. If it's just her, Buster and my daughter's two dogs, she's fine. Otherwise, she hangs by the fence and will head for the exit if I don't run the other way so she will chase me. No matter how many times I take her, she doesn't like it. Buster loves the dog park. He's five pounds and will be four in December. He would love to be in the big dog area but I'm afraid he will get hurt. I don't know how to get Maggie to like the dog park. |

Another thing for me is - I don't want to ruin her relationship with Ringo. He is definitely the Alpha male and I will not be able to take her on a lot of outings without him. It's hard on me and then Ringo gets jealous and takes it out on Lucy. Usually I take them both - that's pretty much all I have time for and also - everyone stays happy with no jealousy issues. Maybe Maggie and Lucy should get together! |
