What about socks? My friends came over today and saw my 3-month old puppy trying to chew on my shirt and my jeans. I'm trying to train her not to chew on those things, and they said to give her one of my old socks. I resisted...isn't that training her to chew on my things? They insisted, and I gave in, and I gave her the sock. Now I'm worried I did the wrong thing. Any opinions out there about that? |
I remember when Mandy (mini schnauzer) was a baby and a friend put one of dh socks inside each other and tied it together. She had a blast with that sock. That was her first toy. Puppies are going to chew. They need to chew. They will sometimes up to a yr. old. But, even though Mandy loved her socks she never did chew up anything or bother anything in the house. I could go shopping or anywhere and come back knowing she had not bothered nothing. Good luck with your baby and let her have her sock. lol!!!!! |
ZoE has a sock too & loves it. It's a long whte sock with knots tied in both ends to make it look like a bone. She loves to shake it and gnaw on the knots. She knows what items are her toys and doesn't try to chew on anything else....other than my slippers..and she's not really chewing on those, she's trying to get the tag off them that is sewed into the heal  |
Mt babies try to help me sort the laundry and always pick out the socks. unfortunately instead of my husbands golf socks from Walmart they prefer my teenage sons's expensive socks from American Eagle. I take them away from them when I see they are eating the pieces instead of just chewing on them. Don't want them to choke. They also love to play tug of war with them. |
Roxie has a toy that I made out an old pair of socks. It is her favorite toy. I put an old water bottle and a squeaker inside the first sock then put the other sock over top and knotted it. She loves it. I never had a problem with Roxie chewing on anything that was not her toys either, except one throw rug for some reason. I made sure she had a wide variety of toys to chew on made of different materials. She loves squeaky things like plush balls with squeakers in them, hard plastic/rubber toys like her kong that I can hide treats in, etc. For some reason she has never liked soft vinyl squeaky things.... hope this helps. Good luck with your puppy. |
Pups like to have things that have your scent on them not a great idea if you don't want puppy holes on everything Best off give him or her a chewy to teeth on rather than your wardrobe |
