Aggression towards children :-( Hi All! I need some help. My little Faith is 13 months old. She's a sweetheart and very submissive. When we frequented the dog park as a pup she had no problem being picked up by children. However, ever since she hit the 1 year mark she's become very child aggressive. She's growled at three children already. We have no small children in the home and she's not dog aggressive at all. She seems to not like the toddler age range at all. Mind you, each time this has happened she's been supervised and the children have never come after her or hurt her. They just look at her and she growls. It makes me sad. My little 2 year old cousin came to visit and she spent her time in the crate growling whenever he got even 3 ft from her. Have any of you had this problem and what are some training tips to correct it. The only other behavioral issue she's had is submissive peeing which I've almost managed to completely eliminate. Thanks for all your help! I would have for my baby to hurt someone else's baby :-( |
You could give the children treats (like Gerber's Graduates Puffs) and have them toss the treats towards the dog, eventually she'll associate children with food.... as she relaxes, if she wants allow her to take the treat from their hands... |
Thanks for the advice! Will try that!! |
You're welcome! Let me know if it works... I had to use it to keep a timid female from biting men...(but they had trouble remembering to grab the treats as they came in the door!) After a few days, she was looking forward to the treats more than biting ankles.:D |
