How can I make Jack poop on walks ! Hi all, Jack goes to the toilet on our lawn and does his poops without being told to do so but if we take him on long walks he holds himself and won't even entertain the idea of pooping and its not until he's back on his own turf that he thinks... aha this is my ground and does his business, this is making me mad and i just wished he would do it whilst out on a walk, so any tips on making him poop whilst out would be welcome. Thanks Margaret & Jack. |
Not sure of an answer, My Tessie won't poop outside if I have her on a leash. She doesn't like for me to watch her. She prefers the potty pads, my other 3 dogs will poop anywhere. |
Uni didn't realize she was allowed to pee or poop outside other than on her pads until she was about 2 yrs old. Maybe it's just a quirk? or maybe he hasn't been on a long enough walk? Feed him is meal, and take him out for a walk right away. Don't come back till he's pooped outside and praise him like crazy when he does. |

Great advice -- keep walking until he does his business. Then praise! |
Feed him, he will go.... especially if you add some green beans or a teaspoon of pumpkin in his food. Also, as you praise him, give him a treat. Start at home, when he goes, tell him 'Go Potty' and when he's done praise him and give him a treat. When he 'goes potty' at home on command, then start taking him on walks, and use the command. (and praise and treats) |
Thanks for the advice and I will feed him before we go on walks, most walks lasts for over an hour and he's mostly off his lead, my problem is that he walks one foot from my legs and never leaves my side. Another problem i'm starting to encounter is CAT POO !!:thumbdown Jack loves to sniff it then role about on it then eat the stuff !!! This has happened three time whilst he is on the garden, I know its cat poo because its small and buried at the top of our garden, I can't get the neigbhours to do anything and i'm pulling my head off ! Husband has even threatened to kill the damn cat  How can i get him to stop eating this crap ? I do clean the poo up, well to tell you the truth I throw it back :D Your a very mad Margaret. |
Maybe try a cat repellant along the property line... or electrify the fence??? (low voltage- scare not kill!) Or plant some catnip along the property line, they'll get high and stay in their own yard (hopefully):D |
