Potty training help: move from apartment to house Hi all, My little yorkie Guinness has been wee wee pad trained since about the first week we've had him. Often when we visit somewhere, we lay down a wee wee pad and he goes on it no problem. Now we've purchased a house and it seems tha he goes in random places... Most often doorways. My questions are as follows: 1. Since we're moving from an apartment to a house, should we have a wee wee pad for every floor? Can he be trained to go to a certain floor to pee? How do I handle the additional floors? 2. I think there may have been a dog in the house before we bought it. Could this be the issue? Any and all suggestions as to how to handle this move would be apprectiated. As for outside training, the issue is a few days a week I have to go in to work and am gone for 8 hours or more. There's no one to walk him during that time so outdoor training isn't a good option. |
I live on multi floors and have a pee pad trained pup. I have a pad on the first floor (laundry room) and on the second floor in her playpen that she sleeps in (it has a "door" that is left open in day). Just wondering, do you think your little one could be marking? When we first got Gidget, she kept making a little pee patch on the "wipe your shoe mat" by the one door in the house. We think it was marking. :rolleyes: |
You pup may very well be marking over the previous dogs scent, the other dog may have peed on the wood of the doorways and it will be very difficult to get that scent out. I would Start tethering the pup to you when you are home so you can easily redirect. |
Usually moving with a Yorkie requires retraining from square one. I'd confine him to one room with a peepad, then two rooms, then one floor, etc. As he relearns what is expected, increase his territory. |
