Snarling and Nipping Hi! This is my first time posting but I need help! Bear is about a year and a half now and fairly small at 3.7 pounds. He has always been very socialized, we did two obedience training classes when he was a pup. But recently, he has begun to get snarly with unfamiliar dogs, especially on walks. He starts to snarl and I know that if I let him get too close he'll try and nip, as he bit my cousins dog on the nose last weekend. If we pick him up when he does this he starts to bark at the other dogs. He does this snarling thing at our toes sometimes too, if we disturb him with our feet when he's sleeping. Any suggestions to get him friendly again? As he is fine with dogs that he has met before he turned 1. |
Welcome to YorkieTalk. :) Is Bear neutered? |
I am having the same issue with my yorkie, Sadie who is fixed. She attacks our cats mostly, never people, but sometimes if there is a dog she doesn't know or even sometimes our other dogs she will snap at them! I don't think she will actually bite... but I don't want her acting this way either!! Picking her up makes it worse, and I was told this is because it makes them feel like you are protecting them so picking them up rewards them or something... |
I am having the same problem with my Westie and yesterday he lunged for my yorkie and i got in between and got a NASTY bite requiring urgent medical care. I am searching for a way to break this before he REALLY gets more dangerous...on top of that he is blind so i am at a loss on how to handle him. I hope we can find a solution for thius soon cuz I dont want him to hurt my lil yorkie. |
