Do disposable pee pad "holders" help? Wondering if any of you use the holders for piddle pads and if so do they help with "wandering poopers" and this peeing right on the edge of the pad or right next to it thing. Alice knows to go to her pads to potty, but she sniffs and walks all over it and sometimes (not always though and it doesn't matter if it's a perfectly clean one or if she's used it once before it got changed) pee pees just right next to it or on the very edge and she does the "poop walk" so that ends up half on the pad and half off just next to it. The holders aren't too expensive, just wondering if they would help this issue before I spent any money on them. Thanks:D |
I never used the official pad holders but instead put the pads on her potty patch tray(to try to get some of my $40 worth:rolleyes:), but I didn't really notice a difference. Princess used to be off target as well but now she seems to get it dead center, maybe with a little more practice & maybe you showing her where on the pad you want it to go she'll catch on as she matures some more. |
I noticed a huge difference when I started using the holders- because there is a slight lip they have to step over they don't go off the paper at all. Plus they couldn't tear the paper, and the paper wouldn't blow away if it was windy or they were running around. I did switch to washables now so I don't use the holders anymore- I wish they had a holder for the washables. |
I don't know if it would be the same but since I put Zivas nighttime newspaper garage pee spot on the cover from an old rubbermaid tub she never pees off it, and if she has a flood that doesn't soak up fast enough at least it is contained! It didn't take much convincing to get her to step up onto it either. |
The pad holder helped sooooo much for us.. Lulu would seem to ALWAYS go on the edge ... After we used the holders, no leakage, no edge, everything was right on the pad... i recommend them to everyone. We got ours from amazon.. they work great and they are pretty well priced! ![]() |
Thanks:D I think I will get them. I figured it would help make the "boundry" more obvious to her. Sometimes she'll have her front paws on the pad and her tushy off it and when I kind of turn her around or move her to the middle of the pad, she looks at me and stops like - what? I was on the pad lol - so I don't think she "gets" what I'm trying to let her know. Plus, I do think it makes them look better for some reason;). @Armani's mom - ya I actually looked into that too because I would like to switch to washables - someone should really invent that lol hmmm... Someone on the Amazon reviews of the holders said they use washable cloth diapers instead of the disposable pads and they fit well..that's an idea too that I might try:) |
I use the Second Nature Dog Litter Boxes.... but instead of using the litter I use the peepee pads. PurinaŽ secondnatureŽ Housetraining Solution I have both pans, but the mini is shaped better.....has one whole side that is a little bit dipped so they can easily walk into it. ![]() |
I also use a diaper genie for the used pads. No Smell in my place. |
I'm sure they would work well if my dogs would use them. They use their pads just fine ut when I bought a pad holder, they just whined and peed beside it. They would not go on it. I put them on it, put a used pad in it, still they wold not voluntarily step on the pad in the holder and definitely would not pee on it. I gave up and it is in the garage. I got mine at Walmart. It is just like the one pictured in the Amazon ad except beige instead of the bluish color. I think Walmart was higher in price too! I was disappointed that they would not use it because I do get that pee on the edge problem where I wind up having to clean up the floor almost every time I change a pad. The problem is much less when I use the larger pads. But the holder would be so nice if I did not have such stubborn pups!! |
I use the diaper genie also. I use a tray that came with a indoor potty that I purchased about 3 years ago. I used it a few times with the fake grass but it started to have a bad order, so I just use the tray and put the pee pad on it. Jackie is the only one that uses the pee pads and she is a walker as well, when she poops. So I purchased another pee pad holder and she will not use it at all. I keep it in my room, because at night I keep my door closed. So they will go to a pee pad but not the one with the holder. I do not know why.I wish it did work for my guys. |
Hot Rod was a little scared of the pad holder at first as we started him without it at first. We got it because he would miss a bit. Once he got used the hard texture, he was okay but still managed to miss every now and then. I keep a washable pad under the pads for close misses. |
