1-year-old still having accidents My male Morkie turns 1 today, and he is still having 2-3 accidents per week (both peepee and poopoo). I take him outside every 2 hours or so, plus shortly after he drinks. He also certainly knows to ring the bell when he needs to go, because he does it a lot, but sometimes he just goes inside. I almost always catch him and correct him, and he always acts guilty because he knows he's been bad. Is it possible that he just needs a little more time? Or do I need to change what I'm doing? Thanks! Julie |
I have the same problem, minus the bells. Frustrating to say the least. |
Bump! It is my recommendation that you look in the general training section for potty training tips or do a search for potty training help (or some such phrase) on YT to find old threads. Rylie wasn't too bad to potty train and she isn't outside trained (she's potty pad/patch trained and goes outside on walks), so unfortunately I don't have any personal advice to give :( Good luck! :) |
All I can say is that Jamie kept having accidents until she was almost 18 months. She is now 22 months and hasn't had an accident in months. So there is hope. She is trained both on pee pads and outdoors. Good luck. |
First off, dogs don't know they are "bad"- likely you get upset everytime they go to the bathroom inside and they just associate the behavior- going to the bathroom with a negative reaction- so after they go they act scared because they are waiting for the reaction. Second, you need to try something different. More often then not it is a consistency problem- people are super vigilant when their pup is young and they mistake their own diligence for the pup actually being trained- when they start to slack a little bit, the dog has opportunities to go in the house. You should go back to basic training, that is the pup is always supervised or contained. |

accidents Ok I'm so glad I'm not the only one. My bella will be 2 in september and she is trained to go outside. She always let's me know but I also have a grasspatch indoors which she rarely uses. I never see her use it but I do see the pee stain on the under pad I take her outside every 2 hrs and she goes but sometime I catch her pooping on my daughters little carpet which really gets me upset! Because that's the only place she does it out of all the places she could go why there? She let's me know when she needs to go so why not let me know then? It is frustrating because she knows how to let me know any suggestions I would really appreciate it. |
Sadie will be 2 on June 5th and still has poop accidents! She was doing so well all week, but tonight she didn't go outside... I think it's because A) I trusted her to go on her own, and B) My brother was there and she is afraid of him so she wouldn't walk past him to go outside... I don't know why she won't hold it! Should I try to get a pee pad and see if she will do that when she can't make it outside?? |
