how to stop mouthing? when my yorkie plays she always bites my hands (not aggresivily) but ive heard not to let your dog do this it hurts somtimes! lol :p |
Nip IT in THE Budd A.S.A.P !! Leave no if and or but's about it, if you let her get away with it, it is so much harder to break the habit. This is how I stopped mine from mouthing/biting. 1.Quick correction "AHH AHH" and "NO BITE" or "Be NICE" and give them a toy ! After the first correction if it continues ... :( 2. I wrap my hand around their mussel (not tight) but just enough to get control of them. Than a light Tap (not to hard) just enough to get their attention. Right on the front of the nose/mouth area. "AHH AHH" and "NO BITE" or "Be NICE" and give them a toy! You will need to be Quick and Consistant and in a short amount of time they get it !! On to the next problem...Now whats next? |
I would always say, "no bite, get a toy", trying to teach her that if she wanted to play, biting hands was not appropriate but she can bring a ball or toy over and I will play then. That worked well for me, it didn't take long to stop it at all. However, this second pup I got was older and from a reputable breeder. It really proved the exp dog people and breeders on this site right, she came to me knowing not to bite hands - their mothers teach them not to bite when they play. |
Jovi does the same thing - we have been trying the tips above but she must be hard headed cause she still hasn't gotten it. She thinks we are playing.:thumbdown |
