Chews EVERYTHING (except the kitchen sink) Yoshi is awesome, he's sorrrrrrrrrrrta doin ok with his housetraining, he doesn't ever bark, and he is friendly with every person i've met so far. however, what he always does is always want to nibble/chew on everyone's fingers. he especially wants to do this when he gets excited and is playing. i dont know if i should just let him do this, since he is teething and just a puppy but i dont want him getting in the habit of putting ppl's fingers in his mouth. what i have been doing so far is yelling at him whenever he tries and then getting him a chew toy to work on. is that what i should be doing? because it is working out that i am yelling at him basically all the time, and thats not really what i want. thanks everyone |
Bentley, who is now two, did that as a puppy. I have found that yelling, for the most part, doesn't do any good :) It is a bad habit (biting or chewing on fingers) so we just took our hand away and said a firm NO. When they hear too many words I think it just confuses them. Just say no and take your hand away...maybe give him a chew stick or chew toy afterwards. Our newest pups, eight months old, caught on that it was unacdeptable really fast! :) |
Pinot does this too so I'm glad you posted this. We've been just grabbing her mouth when she does it and saying "don't bite" ... she still bites. Sigh. I know that she will grow out of it though so I'm pretty patient. My husband, however, is not. Pinot drew blood this morning and my husband was livid. |
i'm glad that he will grow out of it, but i'm not gonna condone or really tolerate it much. on a more important note, pinot is a bombass name for a yorkie. its my favorite yorkie name of the week |
Hi all...I've stalked this board for months and figured I should go ahead and speak. My girl Daisy is 5 months old...we've only had her for a month and a half and she does nibble on fingers but as soon as we say "No bite" she starts licking your fingers like crazy...plus we have tons of chew toys for her. I definitely think consistancy makes a huge difference. Lanie |

Hi, My boy bites too. Not to be mean but just to bite. He looks you in the eye and then just Chomp. Right on the chin or anything else he can get. Exspcially his sister. I hear yelps all the time. Do you think that will stop someday. Them fighting I mean. They are 9 weeks. |

That is definitely a puppy thing and they definitely out grow it. We would put bitter apple on our hards and feet to deter chachi. Jewels never did this so we were lucky to only go through it with one. |

It seems when she gets tired she will start biting and if i tell her tp stop and give her something else she will jump at me and bite me in the arm or anywhere she can grab on to. I am starting to get worried that she won't stop no matter what I do until I put her in her crate which I don'tt like to use for punishment but she is relentless when she's in the mood. She is 5 months old so hopefully she will grow out of it. She also chewed a hole in my carpet! |
Wosie bites too, but is getting better Wosie is also 5 months, and we have had her since she was 8 weeks. She has chewed on finger, arms, legs, anything she can get her teeth on since she came home. We have been working on "no bite" and also holding her mouth closed if she really hurts us while saying firmly "no bite". She is very much starting to get it, and no longer hurts us. Her bites are more just putting flesh in her mouth and then licking. I know it's a puppy thing, and try to be patient. And I try to never yell, just be firm. I have always thought that the problem with just saying the word "no" without the "bite" is you need to be consistent with a behavior. If you don't say no to them for any other reason than biting, then you are OK! Saying "no bite" singles out the behavior. However, I am leaning on the hope that they understand human speech with repetition, lol!! I am probably way off base here, and won't mind if someone wants to correct me on this! |

I am starting to go through this too. Rambo gets excited between meals or when he is playing and will bite, not hard my fingers. I want to try and break him of this now. I try to have toys around. I was told not to have stuffed animals because of the stuffing inside is bad. So I have other little chew toys around. Any other suggestions? |
