dumping in crate ok my wife and i are new to yorkies and we have had older pups in the past now we have 14 week old male he has been here about 2 weeks but the problem is we put him in a crate at night he didnt like it at 1st but he now cries about 5 min than settles down. but he tends to dump 1st thing in morning in his crate . not sure what to do |
If your pup is soiling his crate in the morning you need to get him out earlier. |
Hi. Welcome to YT! I hope my advice doesn't sound too simplistic, but I would try to get up and get him out sooner. They aren't able to hold bowels or urine as long when they are such wee ones. They do get better as they get older. It's just a lot of potty trips when they are so tiny. They also need to eat multiple small meals because they are at risk for low blood sugar until they get a little older. Once I owned my first yorkie, I was hooked! I'm sure you will be too if you aren't already!:):aimeeyork |
First off welcome to YT! Puppies can't hold themselves all that long at a time and I'm really surprised he waits till early morning to poo. You need to think of him as a real baby. They need frequent meals (every three or four hours at his age) and either a potty pad down inside of a expen attached to the front of a wire crate (crate door left open) or taken outside every three hours. You will lose sleep, but by the time he's about five or six months old, he may be able to go around 5 hours before going potty. |
poop in crate ok i get up at 5am now he is 14 weeks and he wieght is 7lbs |
thank you its been along time sence we have had pup so young the others were most house trained when we got them any info is helpfull. |
oh and whats the scrapeing thing like he is digging lol he has been trying to dig up flowers on our rug |
At 14 weeks they can't hold there potty no more than 2 or 3 hours...maybe set your alarm for 2 or 3AM to take him out, than again as soon as you wake up....or get a play yard/ xpen...some kind of confinement with a floor so if he misses the potty pad its easy to clean up...that has enough room for a bed & potty pad and put him in that during the night so he can relief himself in the night....good luck! |
im sure youre all right sorry if i am overwelming anyone he was gotten to be playmate for 1st she is 18weeks now about 3lbs and she is doing grate with pads and she takes no bull from him although she is smaller not sold as teacup but suspect she might be. and full of spunk. |
oh one more thing he is doing good peeing outside for treats so far. i am sure we will enjoy them a lot they already are a good pair. |
I'm sure you will greatly enjoy these little ones! My husband has been just as attached to ours as I am. He loves these little dogs - he never thought he was a small dog guy - now he is a Yorkie guy! (and he looks like he played college football - beefy guy). It sounds like overall they are doing well potty training. That little spunky girl just might be a little better than he is at holding #2 at this point. Eventually, they get so self sufficient and you will miss these days of their babyhood! They pass so quickly - of course, it seems like its passing slow when you're getting up early just to get them to potty! You might want to really watch the little girl and make sure she especially has snacks until a little older. |
