kiwi's been pissing on the floor my 1 year old yorkie is trained to go on the peepad and we haven't had a problem with it for as long as i remember. but lately she's been peeing and pooing on the floor. could this be an act of rebellious? whenever she's being a bad girl, my bf would yell at her. or could there be another explanation for her not using her peepad anymore? |
If she's being yelled at alot, she could be scared and nervous which can cause that regression. Honestly, tell your bf that "yelling" at a dog does absolutely nothing to get them to stop that behavior, it only makes them excitable, nervous and confused. A human yelling at a dog is the same thing to them as another dog barking at them. If you see her going on the floor, frimly but gently tell her "no" and move her to the pee pad, then when she goes there, praise. Yorkie's are tricky to housebreak and it takes a while, but regression is alot of the time caused by a stress factor, so IMHO your bf yelling at her could definatly be the cause. |

I agree with the other posters. I don't believe dogs are capable of being deliberately rebellious. I hope you name it when she goes poop or pee. If you name each act, it's more likely she will understand you and then you can try putting her on the pee pad and saying go "pee" or whatever word you use and she will understand. My dogs all know what it means to pee, poop and mark. |
I don't think dogs do things because they are rebelling, not like people. Please don't let your boyfriend yell at her, this is not helping matters and it will only frighten your little yorkie :( Sometime the little ones have accidents, when she does use her peepad praise her like crazy, let her know she did a good job!, and a treat doesn't hurt either :) |
It is usually stress that causes this problem If a dog has been trained and then starts missing the potty it is usually caused by stress. Either someone in the home is upsetting the dog or she may have a medical issue. Yelling at a tiny dog is inhumane. They don't understand yelling and don't like it anymore than you would. Positive reinforcement is what the dog needs, not negative and scary sounds. |
