Stressful Issues with my Teacup Yorkie HELP!!!! Riley is 4 and a half months. We have his area in the kitchen with his crate, food, and pee area (we don't use pee pads, just news paper). We prefer him pee inside because we do not have a back door, or outside lights. When he was 3 months he was potty trained. We would be in the living room and he would run to his area in the kitchen to pee. But now it seems like he has forgotten everything about potty training. He has 3-4 accidents a day. We bring him to his papers, and he just follows us and pees elsewhere. We clean the pee with one of those sprays that eliminate the odor, and no luck. I am getting very stressed, and can't afford any professional training. I have read everything on the form, all the how to's and done everything it has said and he is still having accidents. SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!!!! I AM GOING CRAZY!!!! |
Have you taken him to the vet? Maybe he has a bladder infection (UTI). |

At 4 1/2 mos he is no where near trained...you have to stay on top of it and that takes months...Bella was over a year old before she got full run of the house...Harley my male is 7 mos old and doing great with his potty training but he still does NOT get full run of the house yet. You should keep him confined while in training and when you do have him out playing use a belly band...you can get them at any pet store and I think there is a few members here that make them, best training tool EVER for males...LOL...Mine are outside trained so I wouldn't be much help on potty pad training...I'm sure someone who is will come along soon...good luck. |
18 weeks is still awfully young to be fully house trained in my opinion. He's still a baby so lots of patience is called for. I think the puppies do wonderfully at even 8 weeks as long as they are contained but give them the run of the whole house and forget it. My advice would be to contain him in a smaller area, maybe one room in your house, while you are not able to watch him. When he gets up, first thing, he goes out and goes potty and then let him out to play and keep an eye on him but anytime you give him the run of the house, you should be watching very carefully. I really think you need to do this for at least the first 6 months. |
Crate training is the best potty training option to me. It keeps your puppy and you on a schedule. It was the quickest way Sydney learned where her bathroom was, which is a doggie litter box lined with wee wee pads. Crate training cut down on the stress for both Sydney and me. Oh, gosh, I continued potty training Tibbe for more than a year after I got him. That means the schedule, constant watching, crate-confinement when occasionally not watching him, etc. He is now fully house trained. Potty training a Yorkie usually takes a good long time. Just be patient and persistent in your schedule and monitoring and remember they regress several times during training for various reasons. It is normal. |

He is a small dog and needs a small confined area It's a big world for a tiny dog. He is getting too far from his area and forgetting when he has to go. He needs to be confined to one room until he is totally trust worthy. If you take him to another room take his pee pads with him. I swear by the commercial brand pee pads. They have a scent that attracts the pup to pee on them. Get the frame that comes with them because they prevent leaking. I had two until my dog was trust worthy and then gradually worked down to one when she had the ability to find her potty in time. She was about 8 months before I did that. Little bladders need time to mature. |
