Maggie Rang her Bell!! - Bell training I am so excited!! Maggie rang her bell all on her own twice today to go outside. I thought it was never going to happen! Our 11 year old cockapoo picked it up a month ago after about a week - but the tiny terror has not shown any improvement - until now. Sorry I just had to tell someone I am so excited - maybe she is coming around! The only slightly irritating thing is that we are babysitting a dog for my grandfather and she picked up the bell ringing in under a day - just form observing the other dogs! Oh well I still love my baby. Is anyone else bell training at the moment? Any suggestions? The bells are such a good idea our old dog loves them. She will ring them, and if we dont come, then she will ring again, if we still dont come she will come find you and guilt you - lol now if only we can get Miss Maggie to that point! |

:yay_jump: That is so wonderful! I remember the first time Cooper rang his bell. It could possibly have been the cutest thing I've ever seen. It took him a couple of weeks. I trained Max to ring the bell also and it took him a little longer. If I don't respond to Cooper he'll ring it really hard and then growl. Max is so uncoordinated that he'll ring it about 3x every time and then it flips over and he just starts crying. Make sure you give treats ONLY when Maggie rings and then potties. You may start going through a very frustrating time where she realizes that the bell = outside (not just potty). Be patient with her. It may take quite a while longer before it's perfected. |
Wow. Congratulations ~ I might try those! |
Thanks everyone! I will definitely try that! Now if only we can get her to lay down! She is 6 months old now - maybe there is hope? lol |

Thanks! Yeah I am really attached - to the point where I am concerned about leaving her with my mother in law while I go to Vegas next week. Our other dog is so easy going and sleeps all the time and well Maggie does not. She has aptly earned her nick name as the Tiny Terror. Isn't it funny how one look from them melts your heart? I can see why people are addicted to Yorkies! |
Congrats!! That is such exciting news!! :) That must have been so exciting when a line of communication has been opened like that! I'm sorry if I missed this in an earlier thread but can you share with me where you keep the bell? Is it on a string on your front door? I'm thinking about training Hudson to start using it and it seems like such a great thing to have him do if I can teach him correctly. |
Congrats!!! I purchased the poochie bells today so hopefully I can train Marley! if you don't mind me asking- what exactly did you do to teach them? I have been pushing the bells with her paw and saying, "Outside- ring your bells." Praising her, then taking her right outside.. |
