Very agressive when washing Hey all, my little (13wk) Macy does ok when I bathe her little body, but gets very mad and BITES when I try to clean around her Eyes an neck. It hurts.. Should I do the PINCH her little neck and a sharp NO method? Any suggestions? |
They dont like it when you wash their face. Be careful that soap doesnt get in the eyes. I wouldnt pinch I would just say no |
Teddie HATED baths...don't know if it was the running water being too loud in the bathtub, or sink, or what the issue was. I went and bought one of those baby sprayers that hooks up to the faucet and sprays like a handheld shower sprayer (baby section of store), and now he is ok with baths. He loves being squirted in the face and tries to catch the water. I also use a wascloth when I wash his face, he bites on it while I wash him...but there is no soap and I coo to him and talk softly and sweetly to him and he seems entranced by the soft voice. I'm hoping at some point to get him comfortable enough with the experience to actually use some shampoo so he is spic-n-span from precious little head to monkey toes.:p |
Ruger used to hate baths but now he seems to enjoy them. I have a sprayer on a hose that's part of the shower -- the hose is long enough to pull down to his level. I use dog shampoo, which is usually very mild and doesn't hurt his eyes, and just spray the heck out of his head. His ears go down so I don't have to plug them, and he seems to enjoy the whole process. |
I mostly wash Princess' eyes before the bath with a tear stain solution and it usually washes most of her face, that way in the tub i can get it wet very minimally as she's a raging lunatic whenever she even hears the bath running. After all that drama her face looks and smells clean.:) |

I also use a spray, but for Tink it has to be on the gentle side, she'll get frantic if it's too forceful. She prefers a little bit cooler water temp too. As she has begun to trust me more, I can work a bit quicker with her, and I was able to use a stronger spray to help get the dirt and soap out of her coat quicker, but I increased the force of it gradually, with each bath. I wipe her eyes before the bath with sterile saline solution, it helps remove any eyegunk stuck to the hair around her eyes. Sometimes if it's alot of gunk, I apply the saline heavily and allow it to set a while to soften up, then it comes off easily. Tink will try to bite if I pull any hairs, lol. I use a mild spray to rinse her face, and she's bad with her ears so I'm very careful not to get any water in them, as it can be painful for any dog. Some days she won't tolerate her head being sprayed, so I use a washcloth on those days. |
