WhitPack | 03-23-2011 04:38 PM | Restricting Freedom While Training? I've read a few threads about this, so I apologize for starting a new one with the same topic. Just an overwhelmed new Yorkie mom trying to do what's best!
I have a one bedroom apartment...not too big and not too small. Right now it's just me and my new Yorkie. She's 9 weeks old and I'm working hard to potty train. She's already pretty good about going on the pad, but I find that when I give her too much freedom, she kind of forgets where she's supposed to go. I bought a gate to block her only in the kitchen (after she peed on the carpet in several places), and she also has a playpen in the kitchn where her potty pads are. When I was in the shower this morning, she had total access to her potty pad and yet decided to use the kitchen floor (in several spots) as her bathroom. I know she's young and it will take time, but should I just always keep her in her playpen when I can't watch her? She doesn't cry when I leave the apartment, but if I'm home and she's in her pen, she screams bloody murder. Any suggestions? Thanks! |
