Jeter wakes up waaay to early...help!! Does anybody have any advice on getting Jeter to sleep later? He is waking up at about 5 a.m. every day. Even if I keep him up later, he still wakes at 5. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. |
How old is Jeter? |
I Have the same problem with Cali! I thought putting her in my bed would help. It didn't. She is 5 months old how old is yours? |
Jewels wakes up real early like that but she just lays in the bed and waits for us to get up. Chachi sleeps in like us. |
My girls have an alarm clock in their bodies.....at 6:30 on the button she wakes up....but once I feed them and put them in the x-pen they are content to let me go back to sleep.....until my son wakes me again no later than 7 :30 :) |
I guess I'm a lucky one bc Harley gets up whenever I get up. :D Whether it's 6am or 11am it doesn't really matter. Just so long as he had his potty break and snack before 'nite nite' he's good to go. Every once in a while he'll do a little whine thing but it only lasts about 2 seconds and goes back to sleep. |

Does Jeter sleep in a crate or with you at night? If he's in a crate, does he cry until you get him out and take him outside? |
Jeter is almost 6 months. He sleeps in a crate. When he wakes up he wimpers for a couple minutes and then barks. When I get him up and out, he does go potty and then he joins me in bed for the next hour until I get up. The vet seems to think he should be able to go longer. Thanks so much for all your input. |
That's just how some dogs are. My family used to raise guide dogs, and most of them were up at 5:30-6:30 every morning- and let you KNOW that they were up. But we had one that would calmly hang out in his crate until you came down. |
Loki gets up early, but if he gets up REALLY early it's just to pee and it's back to bed. Some vets seem to think all dogs are alike. Loki can't hold it more than 6 or 7 hours, even at night and he's a year old. If I do get up with him (if it's not too early) we play for a little while and he's ready for a nap within 20 mins. I don't let him nap after 7pm (well I try) and if he is up WAY too early and won't go back to sleep he has to go in his cage and not back to bed with us because he will jump off the bed and cry for me to get up. Sometimes he will snuggle and chew a bone and wait for me to wake up. Also, try doggie daycare. Not every day, just like once a week or every 2 weeks. Loki gets so worn out and is so tired for like a week after. It's awesome. |
Unfortunately, I get up every morning to go to work at 4:30. Since Roxie is used to getting up with me, on the weekends she only sleeps till 6:00-6:30, which I could consider that SLEEPING IN! :p |
Pebbles also wakes me up 5 a.m. sharp. Not 1 min early or 1 min late. But she is 3 months old. |
Thanks for all your input. Jeter has now moved his wake up time to 3:30am. UGH! He is killin me! :( |
UGH He is going in the wrong direction!!! How many nights/mornings has he done that? |
Goodness gracious! You poor thing!! 3am?? Hmm.. has ever gone to the bathroom in his crate at night? |
I feel so bad for you! I know some people leave water out all night, but I don't because Roxie is trained to go outside- never in the house. So I do take up water between 8:00pm - 8:30pm, after I am sure she has had her fiill of water because we walk each evening. I take her out the last time around 10:00 pm. After I knew she could hold her potty (and the vet gave me a guideline) when she would wake up- I would just whisper to her " Quite" and she caught on that 2:00am was not the time to wake up. But now she is like an alarm clock and hates to be disturbed  anytime before 6:00 am on the weekends. Plus she is a bigger Yorkie then some at 6.5lbs so she can hold it a good while! |
All I can say is be patient. Caleb used to do the same thing and cry in the early morning when he had to go out. Since Jeter (love the name) is about six months he should start sleeping later in about a month or so. Caleb sleeps til 8 now, which is when we get up, but he sleeps longer on weekends with us and gets up about 9 or 10. |
Oh yeah, Caleb is 9 months now. |
Bella is 5 months as of Tuesday and she is up at 5am every stinkin day! She is in a crate but I think she would prefer in bed with me... I would NEVER get ANY sleep that way! She is way tooooo wiggly!! But I guess she is doing better... when she was 4 months she would wake up at 2am to potty and at 5 am... she at least dropped the 2am routine :) BUT... she is so darn cute... I just have some coffee and watch her zip around like a nut! |

Starsky has always gotten up between 5:00 to 5:30 am. Every once in awhile it may be even earlier. He is almost 10 months! If you all have any hints let me know!! |
Mine sleep as long as I do or they will go get a toy and bring it back to bed. |
WOW..Jeter has not had an accident in his crate in over 3 months. He too used to get up at 2 am in addition to the 5:30am. He has done the 3:30 am thing for 3 nights now. The thing that gets me is that he does potty and poop when he gets up at that time. He never eats after 6:30pm and rarely does he have water after 7pm. He is almost 6 pounds now and 6 months. I hate to ignore him in hopes that he will go back to sleep, fearing that he might have an accident. He hasnt had an accident in his crate or anywhere in over 3 months. I am a zombie, but he is happy as can be...so, I guess life is good. |
