I can't help because Ally is practically the same way. She will run and hide (not very good) when she hears the word brush, comb, or bath. She shakes with fear when I pick her up for her bath and will cry when I comb her if she 'THINKS' I have found a tangle. (She doesn't nip though.) She used to hang on to my arm for dear life while I bathed her, but doesn't that much any more. I have praised and loved her, but nothing has helped, so we just deal with it. She is two years old at 3lbs 2oz. |
I give mine treats. I ask them to be "still" and show them the treat and they immediately become calm. I let them have the treat and they stay quiet a while. If the struggle resumes I show another treat and give it after they have been calm for some minutes. Eventually they learned grooming is unavoidable. :p I do wish they would enjoy it as other dogs do but I am grateful they at least find it endurable. lol |
Try speaking softly to Peanut while you bathe and comb. Just like baby yorkie said is what my Elsa does(minus the crying). She HATES a bath and guess what today is...bathtime! BTW...About 15 years ago I had a Lab who hated baths also(go figure, water dog?) But do not show him a water puddle, the beach or a pool. He was right in it. I stood confused. LOL |
Remy hates water, but has gotten better. A few suggestions - it the water too hot? or too cold? I have found Remy does much better in a moderate warm water - something that feels warm but not hot on the inside of my wrist. Try experimenting with temperature. - Where do you bathe her? Tub? Sink? Do you fill it with water and then put her in, or do you run the water while she is in there? In our case, Remy gets bathed in a tub (he is between 6-7lbs and too big for the sink). He hates if the water is already in the tub, but does not mind if the water is running and I use a large plastic cup to get him wet. I've tried both ways. You may want to experiment. - Once Remy is wet (and I do his body first) I turn the water off, get the shampoo onto his coat and give him a good massage. During this part of the bathing process he is very calm, seems like like the rub down (who wouldn't LOL). And he gets lots of praise. - I always do his face and head last, because he gets extremely fussy. - I have my drying towel and brush ready for when he gets out. I have the bathroom door shut so he can not escape and do his zoomies until I've gotten him well toweled and brushed out. Good luck! |
