pad trained but full blown pees right in front of us... we are at our wits end and close to getting rid of yogi. he is approx 10 months old potty pad trained and uses it everyday for both full peeing and pooping but for some reason every few days he just unloads a full pee right in front of us usually on the couch. please help us figure out why because he is perfect in every other way but we will need to get rid of him if we cant remedy this. its not fear or marking in any way. he does it when things are perfect in the house no stress is ever brought to this dog and he just squats and lets it all go for no apparent reason. its a puzzle. |

My two girls, sadie 6yrs and Lillie 4yrs, were both pad trained and only occasionally would go on the floor...NOW it seems they are going backwards!! VERY frustrating!! I'm not going to get rid of them but they go where they want now and only use the pads once in a while! I was thinking about putting panties on them. Hubby and I both work...I don't go in until 2 in the afternoon and get home around 7 at night...I don't know if leaving panties on them for that long would be such a great idea...if you come up with a solution...please share |
I would suggest you get belly bands for Yogi....Yorkies are very hard to potty train...they do tend to backslide...my girls weren't completely potty trained until they were over a year old... I've noticed many times its not the dog's problem..it's the "owners"..not paying attention to the dog.....if you allow him to have free run of your house...then you're not going to always be able to keep a close eye on him.. Have you crate trained him? You might return him to the crate....until he UNDERSTANDS that potty time is for OUTSIDE...not all over the house. Take him out of the crate and straight outside...if/when he potties...then you can let him out to run around for a little while...but then back to the crate until he understands the process. Yorkies need to ALWAYS go potty as soon as they wake up. Right after they eat. After they play. After they chew for an extended period of time. Right before bed... And LOTS AND LOTS of times in between! Too many people have your attitude...if the dog isn't perfect...or doesn't learn as fast as YOU expect... then just get rid of him....Part of being a responsible pet owner...means you learn to take the bad with the good. |

When Yogi potties on the pad, be sure to praise him profusely the moment he finishes. Throw a little party and start giving small treats each time. Don't ever stop giving praise for good potties. My boys are full grown and I still go nuts every time they use the pad. I say, "Good boy!! Woohoo! Yeehah!!" My younger boy dances for me. Then the boys charge into the kitchen for a little treat. When Yogi pees where he is not supposed to, you can either ignore him completely or give him a stern no. Don't get angry or scold him. Be sure to clean up using an enzyme cleaner to eliminate the scent. Leftover scent may attract him to return and pee once again. When he pees in front of you, does it happen when you are playing (fetch, for instance)? Does it happen when he isn't getting attention and you are engaged in something else? Or maybe he is afraid to leave your side and head off to the pad because he doesn't want to miss something? |
