Switching my yorkie from litter to pad? Hi, I have a one year old yorkie. She is totally litterbox trained. I am tired of the mess of the litter and sometimes she eats it which I think can't be good for her. I buy the swheat litter so I don't think it will harm her as it is totally biodegradeable and can be flushed. Is it possible to switch her to pads in her litterbox? Am I tempting fate by trying to do this? I don't want to undo her wonderful box habits. I was thinking of putting a pad and some litter on top and then slowly reducing the litter. Has anyone tried this? |
Hi and welcome to YT! Sorry, your post hasn't received a response before now, guess there aren't many that litter box train here? I would think your idea of slowly transitioning her to pads by placing some litter on a pad would most likely work out fine. I've read to train a cat to use a toilet, you can cover the toilet seat with plastic wrap, place a small amount of litter on the plastic. The cat gets used to going on that surface then, you eventually remove the plastic. Good luck....you'll have to let us know if it works :) |

I use washables both ways - inside the litter box and also straight on the floor. I do this because Teddy has some issues with confinement and won't always enter the box. The other two dogs are fine with either option, but if given the choice, they would rather go in the box then just on the pad. If your litter boxes work, I'd put the pads (washables or disposables as you deem fit for your home/lifestyle) right inside the box. I take mine out and about twice a week, I sanitize the box just to keep things clean and fresh. Good luck! |
