Bella is constantly attacking our cat Our 1 year old yorkie has been attacking our 3 year old cat constantly. She does it out of nowhere and the cat does nothing to provoke her. They used to get a long great, but in the last 3 months she started doing it and it is getting worse Any advice or explanation why she may be doing this? I tell her "NO!" firmly and put her in her kennel for a little bit, but she still does it. |
Leyla thinks my cat is a great toy. Luckily the cat is really good with her and has only swiped a couple of times. Marley (outdoor cat) is about 3 times her size and lets Leyla tackle her, drag her around the patio by his ear or neck and generally just rough house. I usually find them with the cat on his back and Leyla on top of her trying to chew (playfully) on his neck, face, paw...you get the picture. I'm very lucky to have such a patient kitty. |
Is it "play attacking"? Sometimes Rizzo gets a little too rambunctious with Fatso, and Fatso usually swats him pretty hard (no use of his claws though, thank goodness) and Rizzo will get the point. Maybe set up playdates for Bella with another small dog so she can burn herself out on an equal-energy player, rather than on a lazy kitty :)? If she is aggression attacking (serious biting) you may need to consult with a trainer to see what they recommend. As far as I can tell, saying no and putting her in a time-out is about the right idea since cat/dog language is so different. |
