Still pooing on the couch :( Need Help! Hello everyone. A month or so I wrote asking for help and got some good advice but.........my 10 month old female yorkie is still pooing on my couch and now she is pooing in her crate. She doesnt urinate on the couch just poo. Im tired of it lol. You can be sitting on the couch and she will go right next to you. I keep the couch totally covered with a heavy quilt. For about three weeks I have cut her feeding down to two times a day so I could try and catch it but she does all times of the day. There is no warning of sniffing or turning. She just goes. Im trying to be patient and starting today she is no longer allowed on the furniture and I hate to do that as she is a true lap dog. I sure could use advice and some hope that this will change :(. Thank you! |
I am so sorry about that problem. Potty training isn't fun but when it goes longer than 6 months its worse. I would definitely keep her off the furniture like you are doing until she kicks the habit. Other than that just do the usual "NO" in a firm voice and put her immediately outside. Good luck and don't lose hope of a clean couch:) Nicole |
Thanks! This has given me a good excuse to get a new sofa lol. But, I cant until she has kicked the potty habit lol |
How many times per day does she poop? |

The only thing I can tell you is...I wouldn't let her on the furniture...and you are doing this already. One of my little girls has done that a few times...don't know which one though. I did have them pad trained as my husband and I both work and are out of the house too long for them to hold "messes" They were doing GREAT with the pads then all of a sudden they started going where ever they felt like it! VERY FRUSTRATING to say the least! I was going to look into a spray that would maybe deter them from the spots they are using. I was thinking maybe bitter apple would work? I know it's supposed to stop them from biting furniture but, maybe just the smell of it would help. I also thought about blocking them in the kitchen like I did when I first got them. I am at a loss as well as you are...If you figure something out please share! And I will too! Good Luck |
I just thought of something!! How about panties! I know someone on here makes them! I think I might try this. |
Are you training her to use potty pads in the house, or does she go outside? Are you crating her? My little Morkie I just adopted had similar issues. It wasn't just on the furniture, but she would go right in front of you, especially on rugs. The crate worked wonders for us because she kept it clean. I would take her out and if she didn't go potty she would go back in until she did. When she would potty in front of me I would correct her sternly and take her out. If she didn't go back in the crate she went. She is 9 months old, and they trained her with potty pads, which I don NOT recommend. I believe it confuses them. She has only 2 meals a day first thing in the morning and in the evening. She poops once maybe twice a day. Being a stay at home mom helped me. I don't know if I could have done it away from home everyday. She has made tremendous progress in just a week! I couldn't be more happy with the results and advice I got from here. :) |
I would walk her each time after she eats until she poops....my yorkie like to go in the woods...so open space might not work for her even tho the living room sounds like her favorite spot. ;) Get rid of the quilt or bedding she poops on bc it smells like her already and will remind her that's where she goes. I would also keep her off the furniture. Until she learns where to go she probably doesn't need to be up there....if she stays in your lap until she goes....then when she moves off your lap pick her up and put her out. Good luck....hope something works. She is super cute anyway. :) |
So sorry this is happening. I'm a new Mom. But I would crate her often until she learns. When you feed her after she eats, put her in her crate and wait about 15 to 1/2 hr. then take her out to potty. Then put her back in her crate. Only let her out for short periods of time for play time and little exercise until she learns the rules. I don't do pee pads, like another poster said it might work for some, but I think it's confusing as well. |
Thanks ladies..........yes she is crated at night and when we leave the house. She is never crated during the day for more then a couple hours. Its making me crazy. She trained very easily and did so well for so long. I guess we will just keep trying, keep her off the furniture and reward when she goes in the right place :). |
