She stopped listening Lily is about 1.5 years old now. I've had her since she was 3 months old. I got her spayed around 6 months. I started potty-training and teaching commands immediately. It took her a long time to get the potty training down (I think she came from a puppy mill :() but she's fine now that we have a doggy door. She also learned commands pretty quickly too (she even learned "sit" just by watching my other dog, Tristan!). Well, the problem now is that she is not listening at all! She tries to bolt out every door as soon as it opens (she listens SOMETIMES when I say "Stay back"). When I let them out front, she will go to the neighbor's yards even though she knows she's not supposed to. She whines constantly if she's not around me, even if I tell her to be quiet. If Tristan has one of "her" toys, she will bark at him until he gives it up, even if I tell her to stop. It just seems like she is ignoring anything I say and doing whatever she wants. Is this a "teenager" thing that she will grow out of? I've had dogs my whole life but I was never the main trainer so I don't remember if they went through this or not. Thanks! |

I'd ask the vet to evaluate her... sometimes dogs that are spayed too early end up having behavioral problems that can be treated with medication. If not, I think any training will be a waste of your time and a definite source of constant frustration for you.... hope you can get to the root of this behavior soon and things work out well for you both... |
