Help! My Yorkie won't stop whining. We rescued Zeus when he was 8 weeks old. The vet had to treat him for flea infestation and several types of worms, ear infections and skin infection. As soon as he was well enough, he jumped and broke his leg. Surgery and almost 8 weeks in a cast destroyed potty training. My husband is definitely the "Pack Leader" but he had to leave for Afghanistan for 8 months. Zeus is doing better about potty training but he knows that whining gets him a walk outside, even when he does not have to go. My puppy won't stop whining!! Any and all advice is welcome. Thanks!! |
I don't have enough experience to answer your question so I'm bumping this in hopes that someone who can help you will see it. Questions - can you describe the whining? Is it all the time? At specific times? What do you do when he whines? |

I have a whiner myself. All I can tell you is to teach him the quiet command. He needs to know if his good then on your time he will get awarded to go outside. |
I sympathize for sure. When we rescued our first Yorkie, Snookie, he was truly a LAP dog. I mean, if he wasn't on a lap, he whined. The first night, I told my husband, this is going to be tough, but we will survive. We put him in his sleeping kennel and spent 3 sleepless nights in a row. The 4th night, he was quiet. Eventually, he worked his way into our bed, but those first three nights were difficult. Sometimes, you just need a little "tough" love. They do learn, if you can outlast them! |

My Lucy is a champion whiner too. And she does it because it works so darn well! I need to practice a little tough love myself. |
My yorkie -Mercy- whines too, I am working on it through the tough love by ignoring her. It was my own fault as I spent couple of nights with her sleeping next to her bed, I was told off. So had to grow myself and her out of it and now I've ended up with a whinner. |
