whining puppy.. So just brought home another puppy!! her name is Lotus and she is 9 weeks old, when I brought Snickers home for the first time, I NEVER had a whining problem with him when I would leave him in his "den" area. But I cant even leave Lotus in a room alone for just 2 minutes without her yelping and whining so loudly! I feed her and play with her, make her go potty on the pads, and then try it again.but..she still whines so loud!! and i live in an apartment..i dont want the neighbors to complain while i am away and she's whining like crazy!! i have heard the best thing to do is to ignore her... but thats not even working!! does anyone have a good way to deal with this? btw.. i have only had her for about 2 days now, most adorable thing ever. |
I have the same problem with Teddy. Are you sure your neighbors can hear the whining and crying? I do not think that is as loud as barking? I live in an apartment as well. I've tried standing outside and I can only hear him if he barks, but not if he whines/cries. |
yeah my boyfriend took out the trash this morning, and says he can hear whining from outside!! but you cant tell where its coming from.. unless you walk closer to my apartment. i just dont want anyone complaning! shes not doing it at night though..of course! cause shes sleeping with us (the pack). |
Is she sleeping with you or do you have a crate/xpen set up where she sleeps? |
well snickers sleeps with us, she sleeps with us too!! :( spoiled. snickers is a really well behaved dog though..he never had any issues like this as a puppy. maybe she just feels more comfortable if her den was in the room.. no idea though. |
Teddy is my first pup and I am crate training him. I'm sure others can help in this area too, but perhaps you should crate your pup and keep her den in the room with you? I know some members have bought the snuggle puppy, which is battery operated and imitates a beating heart and emits warmth. Here's a link Snuggle Puppies SnugglePuppies Snuggle Puppie SnugglePuppy The puppies are sold out, but you can buy a snuggle kitten it is the same. Anyways, the point I'd like to make is that I think you are going to have to train your dog to be independent, and enjoy spending time alone...I think crate training her is a good start and as she does better then you can give her access to larger spaces, more rooms in the house etc. I also recommend that you watch this video, it will provide you all of the advice I've read other members give, except you will get to see it in practice. 9 weeks is very young; too young to be away from his Mom and littermates. He is going to want to be with you. |
