Jamie won"t use the wee wee pad in the new holder Jamie was about 95% trained to go on pee pads in the kitchen and bathroom. When we first got her she chewed and pulled the pads so we bought those holders that are like a frame and you have to completely take apart to put in a new pad. She learned to go on the pads and not tear them but the holders are a pain to use. So I got a brand new tray holder from Walmart since I had a credit there. Jamie will not use the pad now. It is a little higher and I guess it feels different. She is walking around it and has been using the other pad in the frame holder or peeing on the tile floor next to the pad. I had put some of her pee on the pad but that has not worked yet. Any ideas, friends, or should I just go back to the old holder. Thanks for any help. |
since it feels/smells different, she might not equate it with going piddle yet. I would give it at least a day or 2 to see if she comes around. If not, then just go back to what was working. |
I have read here that a lot of dogs have trouble with the pad holders, they pee on the side or off of the pad. Washable pads are another option to discourage chewing and pulling pads. Many people have posted here that washables cured all of their problems. I still use disposable pads. Thankfully, Maximo outgrew his desire to treat them as chew toys. The pads are on top of a rubber mat. Although the mat doesn't hold them in any way, it somehow helped. |

Years ago I got a holder, but Sophia wouldn't use it. Well, with two little ones soon I decided to reintroduce them to her. Peyton is already using a holder at the breeders. So, today I looked and she went poo on the pad, but piddled on the carpet  right next to it. She so knew she did wrong. I said "Sophieeeee" in the voice I use when I am correcting her. She took off and ran behind the couch. I continued to clean up the spot and she inched her way out. I took her and put her on the piddle pad and told her that she needs to go piddle there, etc. The look on her face! You would have thought that I just beat her! Poor little thing. My being disappointed was devastating to her. (to reiterate, I only scolded her, did not, nor would I hit her!) So, we are going to work on this the next few weeks. Don't know what it is about the holder. |
Thought I'd better add that she had just done it. Piddle was still warm. :shocked7q: yuck! Didn't want anyone thinking I was training her wrong. |
pee pads We started Belle off right away with the pads and holder. Guess being I was training I would pick her up and put her on it. Then when she learned to go on her own she came up with the idea that if her front feet were on the pad it counted. I bought washable pads and put under the tray to catch what didn't go on the pee pad. Then I realized that the floor under all this was getting wet. My DH came up with the idea of a boot tray under the washable pad with the pee pad and holder on top. I get tired just typing it. Works great and easy to clean. I just put the trays and pad holder in the shower and spray them down with hot water and then cleaner, then rinse about 15 mins later. The pad holder I use is just 2 pieces. the bottom tray and the top frame from Foster and Smith. |
