Walking Hi ~ Can someone help with this please? Not sure why but our little 4 mos. old was doing great leash walking the first few days we had him home. It was a tad chilly and he wore a sweater - briefly. (We are in Florida). Since those first few time however he has not walked. He will lie down on the sidewalk and refuse to walk unless prompted with a treat. We have only done the treat thing twice so far and the last time even that didn't work very well. How do we get him to walk with us. It's really bumming my hubby out as he really misses the walks he used to take with our Gizmo before he got ill. Thanks for any help! |
That's what mine do when I put a sweater on them...they kind of freeze...one of my little males would fall straight over on his side and just lay there when we put a sweater on him! Have you tried walking again without the sweater? |
Have him try to carry him a ways and then put him down. Make it fun for him. Maybe toss a ball down the path to get him interested again or try to start out at a trot with him. I think all yorkies like to run.:D |
@my2boyz: Tried that this afternoon to no avail. I take him in the front yard to pee or poo and he just eats the grass. I take it out and have to bend down to grab him for this and he clamps the mouth shut, so we struggle, I get the grass out, stand up and he eats another piece of grass...:( The walk is downhill from there...thought the no sweater thing would work...uhhhh...n o ..... @yorkieusa: They do love to run! So does Teddi and so do we! Will def try that tomorrow... He's really being poopy about it (pardon the pun);) |
Something I started with Kacee - just for fun - when she was a puppy was to go wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee and take off running. She loved it! She'd take off running as fast as she could go, too. To this day, all I have to say is wheeeeeeeeeeeee and she'll take off running with me.:D |
