Help, can someone please tell me how to make my two male yorkies stop fighting My male yorkie who is now over 2 years old and his son who is 9 months old started fighting with eachother in a way that they can hurt themselves. I would have to put them in different rooms. Is there anything I can do to stop this? |
Are they both neutered? Intact males will fight. |

Not as a rule..both need to be done. PS..and it can take some time after neutering, it is not instant. |
Both need to be neutered FOR SURE. Or nothing will improve. I've heard in the past that mother/daughter and father/son type pairings can often fight. |
I had the same problem. My father and son never got along. I first was going to sell all the pups, then I had just one left and was not crazy about the one who wanted to buy him. So, I just said he was staying. Kept him for a few more months, but the older he got, the worse he and his dad got along and they tried to out-mark each other (something my dad dog had never done before). I was not sure at the time if I wanted to neuter Ben (dad) so I decided, with much regret to rehome the puppy with my DIL's friend. I have missed that little guy though! He was so sweet and loving, the last of my hand-raised litter. Ultimately I have neutered the dad anyway, so I wonder if I did the right thing. If I had neutered them both, they probably would have gotten along eventually. |
Thanks everyone, we don't want to give one up, we love them too much so we are going to neuter our 9 month old for now, then we are going to see how they will get along...hope that they will. |
You could try walking them at the same time, together but on separate leashes so you can intervene. I would do this now and continue even after neutering. It helps to tire them out and it helps with bonding issues, creates a pack mentality with you as the head of the pack. |
