Petco Obedience Classes Hi, I'm looking to enroll Brady in an obedience class. We all live in different places so it's hard to ask you guys for specific recommendations but how about Petco's training program? Has anyone taken classes there? Since it's a chain I'm assuming they'd have the similar standards for trainers they hire. That may/may not be true but I thought it wouldn't hurt asking about other people's experience. Thanks =) |
Cody went through the Puppy Class this summer and I was pleased with the results -- although I think the training was as much for me as Cody. They have specific commands they teach (sit, Off, leave it, stay, etc) and we worked on leash training. |
It seems like with all those type of stores, it really depends on the trainer. It's best to go ahead of time and meet the trainer you will be having to see if you like them. Or even see if there is a current class going on so you can watch the trainer in action for yourself. I hear mixed results-- some people say they had a GREAT trainer at Petsmart and some say they didn't at all... so it's hard to say! Btw, I'm in Annapolis, MD. :) |
Thumbs wayyyyy down for petco. They taught London NOTHING! Then I assumed it was the trainer so I gave them another shot for her intermediate class but they didn't listen and put her back in puppy. they said "your dog is small so puppy class is better" welllllll, I'm not paying $115 to learn the same stuff again. I got a refund. I'm not impressed with anything that is a chain, they seem to not care about their job as much because they will get paid regardless. |
Thanks for all the input. I've definitely read mixed reviews, so I plan on sitting in on classes at a variety of places (chains and local) before deciding. I guess in the end, there's not a big price difference. Britster, I've actually never been to Anapolis but I know it's quite close haha. We should meet up if you're ever in bmore =) |

By the way, there's a nice training place in B-more. I think it's called Capital Dog Training Club! I think finding private clubs is way better than those chain stores. :) I go to a place in Crownsville with Jackson for agility classes. Heres another one: http://www.orioledogclub.org/ and http://www.bestfriendsdogobedience.com/ |
