Rolo-10 Months. Assurance needed Hi; I guess I'm writing, looking for some support and/or input. Rolo is now 10 months old. and has been in our home for 7 of those months. In the 7 months that we have had him, I have tried to train him to ring a bell to go outside to pee and then pee/poop in a home made litter box. I would say this has been somewhat successful. I know for sure that he knows that ringing the bell opens the door and using the litter box brings lots of praise and treats. In fact, when he does that, he comes running for his rewards. The thing is, he is mostly consistent. Then, all of a sudden, for no reason, he will poop and or pee in the house. I don't get it. Why, when he seems to do so well, does he ignore everything he has learned, choose to forego the praise and have a wreck in the house? I don't get it. This is my second dog in the house but this little yorkie just doesn't seem to be getting it. I had thought by 10 months, he could have limited free reign of the house. He is still blockaded in the Kitchen! Any advice or suggestions? |
I have a 5 yr old female yorkie who was 100% trained to go on the pee pads by 8 months old. Has not had not one accident since then. I now have introduced another little yorkie to our family - a male. We got him when he was 5 months old - he is now 9 months old and have the similar situation as you. I would think that he would love to get praised and given treats but most of the times, when I leave the room (because I still have him gated off) he will go right in front of the gate - as if to say "you are leaving me? - so there". I know that he probably needs more attention or stimulation - so I'll work on that a little more. Good luck to you (and me - LOL!) |
