Crazy Monster Yorkie Sam is 2 years old and always has been a good boy but the last couple of months when my boyfriend gets ready to leave he acts like he is going to attack him. He barks at him really loudly and follows him all around the house and acts like he is going to bit his ankles. ( He doesn't bite him) And then when he does leave he barks even more and jumps at the door. Apparently he only does this when I am home. And he doesn't do it every time either. I have tried holding him so he can see him getting ready and tell him quiet and make him sit nicely and be quiet before I let him go. I don't know what to do. I have been able to train Sam on any other thing but I am having a really hard time with this weird and naughty behavior. Any advice? |
Wow that is a good one. I am sure some of the very knowledgable people on here can help you. |
This isn't all that uncommon. If your bf has the patience for it, you should set up at least one official practice session. Have him sit on your lap, or in "Place", if you have one. As your bf goes for the door, praise him and maybe give him a treat if he stays calm. The second he starts barking or trying to jump off your lap, put him in the bathroom for a "time out". Wait until he has stopped barking, scratching at the door, etc, then wait another 5-10 seconds before opening the door, picking him up, and trying again. Expect to do this about 25 times before he gets the idea. It sounds tedious, but it will work. |
He does not want your boy friend to leave. My 2 year old has started doing this when anyone wants to leave as he wants everyone within in sight all the time. I think it is a pack thing. |
