She barks all the time.... Okay so i have a three month old yorkie... and she barks when shes playing, when shes locked up, when she meets new people. I try to tell her no all the time just once and very firmly, but she doesnt stop. And if i ignore her she gets soo angry. Im not sure what i should do. im not sure how i should be correcting this behavior, shes aggresive so i dont want to be too forward with her. Please let me know if you have any advice. Thanks!! |
i find that a firm "NO" works considerable well. if my pup gets mad...so what. I'M in charge. and what i say goes. i'm the Alpha dog in this house and i demand good behavior. yet, ALL my babies know they're very much loved. take charge!  |
I taught my dog "Quiet" on command. If they quiet when I tell them to they get treats and praises. If they don't, I spray them with the water bottle. It took awhile but now they are pretty good about being quiet when asked to. |
You might want to try canine pheromones too! |
Harley barked ALL the time too when I first got him (especially through the first days of crate training.. Harley would bark and one of my other dogs Zeus would howl bc he wouldn't shutup!) but I taught him to stop by saying "No!" (quite firmly) and everytime I say this I make a "stop" hand signal and he quiets. Now I only have to just give him that 'look' and put my hand up and MOST of the time he obeys. But sometimes there's just no quieting their hyper lil selves! It's all about patience (don't lose your temper!) and consistency. And try and catch her 'before' she actually barks. Pay attention to her body language she expresses before the initial barking. IE does her hair stand up? Does she stand or stare? You can practice learning her 'before body language' best by having someone help you out and set up a situation that would typically make her bark, observe her behavior and then after practice you can hopefully get her under control. I've never used the 'ignore' tactic except when training him to get used to his x-pen. He used to cry and bark and whine hoping to get taken out but I informed my whole family that the only way they were ever allowed to take him out and praise/play with him was if he was being quiet. And that unless he was screeching like he was in pain ignore him. And it worked! Now if he wants to be played w/ he knows he must be quiet and behave himself first! Now, Harley still barks sometimes. For example when he hears/sees strange people in the house, when he hears the other dogs barking, or when he hears something funny. That in itself is part of what makes this breed such great watch dogs! |
Both of mine Bark alot. They bark at the stray cat all the time. I have to raise my voice and say No. but some times that donyt even work so I have to take a news paper and hit it on my leg or table top. That seems to get their attention. Then I say no. |
I don't have much problem with Toki barking. he barks at proper times. If your dog is barking you should make some other noises to distract your dog from barking like blast music or sometimes picking them up and tell them No helps. |
hi all, i just was on the web site of hgtv and found a way to stop our pups from barking.... they said, squirt lemon juice in their mouth and say quiet!!! im gonna try that one... good luck |
The only thing I have found thaat helps is spraying with the water bottle and saying no bark. |
At my bfs house if the dogs get into a fight (happens often bc of a VERY moody female english bulldog named Lulu.. lol) they grab the squirt bottle and spray them in the face. It's a solution of half water and half vinegar.. Trust me.. this stuff works.. And they also used it to train their boxers from not barking like insane guard dogs everytime someone pulled in the drive way. It doesn't hurt them, just grosses them out long enough to make them stop and after a while they figure out that fighting/barking = vinegar spray! EEEWWWW! |

okay...here\'s a riddle. how do you get a dog to stop barking in the front seat of your car? put him in the back. |
thank you all so much!!!! i\'ll definitely try all of your suggestions until one of them works.. but thanks to you all very much for your help! |
I too am thankful for the sprayer info. I am yorkie sitting my mom\'s two 5 mos. old yorkies and all they do is bark. Evidentally my mom hasn\'t attempted to break them of doing this so I\'ve been trying the sprayer thing for about 5 hrs now and they are catching on. She sure has smart dogs. I just think she lacks the time/gumption to train them properly. Thanks for the advice! |
